Medford Man Dies in Car Accident on Cape Cod: An 86-year-old Medford man has been identified as the victim in a fatal car accident in Hyannis over the weekend, the Cape Cod Times Reports. Eugene O'Leary was the passenger in a Mercury Milan that collided with a Ford F-150 near an intersection on Route 132 about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. O'Leary and the vehicle's driver both had to be extricated from the car, according to the report. O'Leary was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Weather: There's a 20 percent chance of showers today with highs expected in the low 60s, according to the National Weather Service. Sunny skies with highs around 60 are expected tomorrow.
Report: Junk Hauler Finds $114k in Bonds in Discarded Furniture: A Medford resident thought an old chest in her home was an old piece of junk, but it turned out to have quite a treasure inside. Leo Guarente and his crew from Junk Depot in Saugus had just finished loading up unwanted furniture at the Medford home and were breaking it all down to make room for their next job, acccording to a Channel 7 News report. Inside an old hope chest they found savings bonds from 1972, Guarente told WHDH.
See How Medford's Unemployment Compares to Communities Nearby: Medford's unemployment dropped slightly from July to August, but remains at a level nearly identical to what it was at the beginning of Summer. According to figures released by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Medford's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent in June, 5.5 percent in July and 5.3 percent in August. Since the start of 2012, Medford's unemployment rate has dropped nearly one percent, according to the data.
