A 20-year-old Somerville man was arraigned in District Court Monday and charged with indecent assault and trespassing after allegedly touching a female Tufts University student, according to a statement from the university.

According to the statement, Tufts police received a report at about 10:50 p.m. Sunday from a student who had been working at the Jackson Photo Lab on Talbot Avenue, on the Somerville side of the Tufts campus.

The student told police she was approached from behind by a male she didn't know, and he struck up a conversation with her and placed his hands on her lower back and buttocks, the statement says.

She fled out the back door and toward her residence, and the man followed her, attempting to hug and kiss her, according to the statement.

When she got back to her dorm, she contacted Tufts police, who searched the area and notified the Somerville and Medford police departments, the statement says.

A few minutes later, Tufts police were contacted by a resident assistant in another dorm, who said there was a suspicious male in the residence, according to the statement.

Tufts police apprehended the male, Bethony Jean-Baptiste, who was identified by the student who reported the alleged assault, the statement says.

According to a Somerville police booking log, Jean-Baptiste's is listed as living at 259 Somerville Ave. in Union Square.

In addition to charges of indecent assault and battery and trespassing, Jean-Baptiste was charged with furnishing a false name to police, according to the statement and the police booking log. He was held on $1,000 cash bail, the statement says.
