Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

Obama won Massachusetts, taking 60 percent of the vote to Romney's 38 percent. In 2008, Massachusetts voted 64 percent for Obama and 36 percent for Republican John McCain.

Obama’s performance in Massachusetts wasn't necessarily surprising, considering the Bay State has voted for the Democratic/Republican candidate in recent presidential elections.

Well I disagree just the opposite is true we are more relevant then ever. We and our State leaders even Ted Kennedy before his passing were huge supporters of Obama. Our continued support and the victory by the President and the victory of many of the new Congressman and women and new US senators is clearly showing that Massachusetts leadership is on the right track. What approaches irrelevance is that Woburn a still small town/ City want to buck the tide for the sake of saying it did and that leaves us behind the leadership. Obama won here and I am elated but Warren did not.
Independence is a good thing lets face it that sense of following your own path is what brought our immigrant ancestors and for some Mothers and Fathers to this country but to not face the fact that the fabric of America is changing once again and to fail embrace that change is foolish and dooms us to irrelevance. Thank fully as you look at the results there is proof Woburn is changing and will remain relevant along with Massachusetts. What is truly irrelevant are those in town unwilling to accept and contribute to that change.

I've learned my lesson tonight. To survive & thrive in the USA, you no longer need to work hard to get ahead. That's the old fashioned, dumb way. I don't need to send my kids to school, education will be useless. I don't have to be productive, I don't need any positive attributes any more, BIG Govt will take care of me. Great part about this way of life, I don't have to pay taxes any more. Come on people, do as I do, get those ENTITLEMENTS govt will hand out, FREE OF CHARGE. If we all do as the President desires the country will collapse real quick. I forgot, HE will MANDATE every person perform a job that HE picks for us. Smile, be happy while you can. It always amazes me how some people cleave to the very ones who are responsible for enslaving them. The "fiscal conservatives" spew the ideology that has kept them immobilized and unable to investigate information for themselves. They throw terms like"big government" around, but do they actually know what they mean? Perhaps it's time to simply stop the rhetoric and get educated. Find out for yourself how the government works.

Kudos to Jim for his unctuous tomes, which probably resulted in zero conversions. Not often do we see such disastrous predictions (save maybe Dick Morris), and tedious repetition of talking points sans any substantive discussion of issues of concern to many voters of all political stripes. It was meandering and sometimes condescending and cute spinning like that which contributed to the enormous GOP losses, not only in Massachusetts, but across the country. The GOP will have to make many changes if it is to survive and thrive. I'd suggest they begin with selecting spokespeople who can be more than 'cool' and speak compassionately and analytically to the enormous problems that face us. Maybe some of the grace shown in the Romney concession. Not the hate that suggests union, Chicago or other conspiracies.

Hey Dan, kicking Jim while he's down isn't polite. (But I did enjoy it ; ) But Jim has a larger problem than just losing the election. His entire party is in shambles. After 6 or 7 years of running for President, Romney has left no mark on the party. No one is in charge. The Republicans can't figure out that the nation and it's demographics have changed. The party has been ripped apart by the Tea Party, the white evangelicals and the fringe like Perry, Bachmann and the pizza guy. Their primary process is destructive. Where have you gone Jeb Bush, a lonely party turns its eyes to you. Jeb would have beat Barack.

Comment_arrow

Deb

6:40 am on Thursday, November 8, 2012

Moderate Republicans need to kick the Tea Party to the curb, or just leave the party and start a new one. Those who know any American History know that in the early days of the republic, parties were extremely fluid - the Federalists, Jeffersonian Dems, Whigs, etc. Then in 1860 this largely stopped (Gene Debs and TR notwithstanding) and we basically have had Republicans vs Democrats for 150 years (not that the ideologies of the parties remained the same, just the 2 party names.)

A pundit yesterday was complaining about Scott Brown and said he's a moderate bipartisan R, why didn't the people of Mass. vote for him? Well, maybe because SB can be as moderate as he likes, but he's totally ineffective unless there's 10 more R's like him. And there are not. So better to give the Dems a majority in the Senate.

a reflection of what America truly is today.....yeah, one screwed up, divided country. Most likely with no chance to heal or unite. This can be said no matter who won the election. The President is small part of the problem. The real issue is Congress, 535 who have dug their heels in on "Ideology", unwilling to work with each other for the betterment of the country. There is NOTHING to celebrate today because of this. The President, too, has caused this division, to a point. We pay the price for this. It's too bad the people can't see through all the smoke these morons throw at us. We get what we deserve!!

It has nothing to do with skin color. Something I am a little tired of hearing of. It's more about a country that is truly divided on the issues. This country needs a new party, a third party, that is focused on people who are more independent in spirit. Liberal on some issues, a bit more conservative on others. That is where I stand and where I think millions of others do as well. Our country can't survive being only liberal on every issue or being completely conservative on every issue. Unfortunately it will take years, and a whole lot of money to make that happen.

Yes, a reflection of what America truly is today. Look at the coalition that re-elected the president. It was not a coalition driven by concerns about the long term sustainability of our country's financial picture, it was not a coalition worried about the unsustainable level of Federal debt they will leave this country's children, it was not a coalition that cared about the ever increasing power of the Federal government over the Individual and the States, it was a coaltion of selfish interest in each segment of the coalition's particular issue that re-elected the President. Issues about ratifying the Federal government's failure to manage immigration, Issues about class envy, issues about a non-existent war on women hyping the impluasible reversal of Roe v. Wade, issues about public sector employment and public sector pensions, these are the issues that re-elected the President. In the mean time, a significant portion of the Federal public debt is held by China, a significant portion of the total Federal debt is held by the social security trust funds, the former yeilding significant influence on international policy by virtue of their economic leverage, the latter imposing a huge tax burden on our future and our children's future to repay the borrowings from the Social Security Trust fund so that social security beneifts can continue to be paid. This is the reflection of what America truly is today.

To Deb: Do you think that 9/11 would not have happened if Gore had won in 2000? The extremists had been planning the attack for years. We would have been at war anyway. Duration would have been the only thing different, maybe shorter, maybe longer. Hind sight is great. AND the Supreme Court did not rush in, they were asked to review and make a decision. Which, I believe is their job. Republicans today are sore losers, If the shoe was on the other foot, Democrats would be the sore losers. Two side to every story. All we can hope for is a big cut in federal spending and maybe not so big of a tax hike. I do not see the job market improving at any great rate over the next two-three years, but I do see more people on welfare (which we cannot afford), more homeless, and the elderly not being able to make ends meet. What to choose? Housing and food or medicare which will not cover all their needs. We are not a Democracy. We are a Republic. Majority does not rule. We need to start thinking about Americans and their needs. Democrats have always fed the less fortunate with fear, by promising anything and everything. Republicans have always been for the business sector, which actually runs this country by providing jobs. IF you really want to change things and have a balanced budget , elect a housewife as President. She does not need to belong to either party as HOUSEWIFE is a party unto its self.

I'd like to think that you are probably a nice, decent, hardworking guy, but your pouty, foot stomping, sour grapes post suggests that you believe that only freeloaders could ever support the president. I think you might want to take a look at this breakdown of the infamous "47%."

http://www.factcheck.org/2012/09/dependency-and-romneys-47-percenters/

Note that the number is actually 46.4%, that 22% of those are seniors, 15.2% are considered to be "working poor." The rest "ended up owing no federal income tax due to various tax expenditures such as education credits, itemized deductions or reduced rates on capital gains and dividends. Most of this group are in the middle to upper income brackets. In fact, the TPC estimates there are about 7,000 families and individuals who earn $1 million a year or more and still pay no federal income tax."

Dickerson, seriously? You really think a woman is on board with legimate rape? Of course not!! And since I'm definitely not of the the Christian or Catholic persuasian I am definitely not cool with any kind of fundamentalist agenda. But, just because I am socially liberal doesn't mean I can't be *somewhat* fiscally conservative, too. And when I say fiscally conservative, I am talking about letting EBT cards be handed out...but with restrictions...I know this may make you and other folks shudder. But there has to be *some kind* of cost controls in order to maintain a reasonably balanced budget. I don't understand why people don't even get that concept, or are willing to consider why it's necessary. I would like to be able to retire some day but there may not be social security when it's my time, and who knows what kind of financial situation our kids will have. So it's not like the non-uhber liberals are meanies, we're just trying to get to a place where our taxes are reasonable and we can afford to raise our children in a safe, stable environment. I don't think that is too much to ask.

That is absurd. Communism do you know what it even means or stands for other then the conditions that the average person might live under? In places like Russia you had the few, who controlled all Power, wealth, even who lived and died and passed it on to their children and grand children they were just 1% of the population and with their money and position ruled great power of the mass of people. That is Communism begun under Joseph Stalin. Today take a look around you some people like myself have small businesses that allow us to enjoy a middle class life style will I become a Wall street of Hedge Fund Mogul, I certainly hope not. Yet lets face it the stock market they control and that effects most peoples jobs, interest rates even to a great extent average worker compensation and benefits. We are more like a communist country today then in the last 60 years with a growing divide. Wake up look around you yes we still have a glimmer of opportunity for our children through education and hard work but look at the cost to them of school loans. Debt that took me decades to amass in expanding 3 businesses and by the time they are 22 they have the same amount of debt as I did when I bought my house. Who do they pay that loan to? Not us to the 1%. It took that elite group to get their hooks into my generation decades for this current one under 4 years. Now that is Communism look it up.

He has inherited is own mess. Good luck to him. He need to learn to compromise with the House and the Senate. As they also need to learn the same. WITHOUT SELLING US COMPLETELY TO CHINA. After watching all of Romney's ads, I am certain that he will now spend all of his free time crusading against the Chinese peril that threatens to spill over our borders, destroy our freedoms, usurp our resources, and pollute our bloodlines. I learned through his ads that we should no longer fear the Islamic threat when we can all fear China's planned economic world dominance. Just like O.J. I am concerned that the legalization of marijuana will be a jobs-killer. What will happen when free weed crashes the corrections industry? We need to get high on crackdowns, not crack.

Comment_arrow

Chris L.

9:15 am on Wednesday, November 7, 2012

Well, people are upset about the military industrial complex that Bush overbuilt. But no one gets upset at every president since Nixon and their complicity in the Prison Industrial complex in America.

Legal marijuana would hurt the prison industry, but in turn it would rob Mexican Drug Cartels of revenue, it would create jobs in the farming and cultivation levels, it would create more distribution opportunities for trucks and trains, it would become another commodity to be traded to other countries, there would be marketing opportunities, such as Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg product endorsements. The list goes on and on.

But the biggest thing of all, it would tip the budget scales away from the red. Instead of spending billions on the war on drugs, law enforcement could better focus on hard drugs, while the feds collect tax revenue from the marijuana.

For all of you Dems who decided you didn't want Republicans regulating what women could do to their bodies, its now time to ask why the government is still allowed to regulate this.

This is their MO. The modern Democratic party is a coalition of special interest victim groups who proclaim to be tolerant but in reality espouse a venomous attack on anyone who doesn't fall in line with their leftist socialism. They break election laws, they register anyone with a pulse, bus them to the voting site, and dictate to them who to vote for, and they promise lots of "free" stuff, paid for by the taxpayers of Foxboro and other middle class towns across America. They look out for women, as long as they are liberal women. If they are conservative women who think for themselves they are derided as mere barbie dolls "too stupid to understand" and mocked and ridiculed as clueless idiots. This is the party where twitter exploded with death threats and violence threats if Romney won the election. All of this occurs yet the biased media ignores it. At the end of all this these sick people point their hypocritical finger at self reliant conservatives as 'hateful bigotted racists'.

Paul Bishop

Please note that doesn't make a comment about the actual REPUBLICAN agenda. The agenda that was voted down was the agenda of those that have spent the last months being dishonest in the hopes of personal gain (mostly bloggers, teaparty funders, and misogynists). Personally, I will miss Scott Brown, who was a Republican who lost because his campaign staff was Rapepublikkkan. My former party, the GOP, sold itself to the American Taliban and Birthers- and lost. Maybe it's time for the party to reject the dishonesty and hatred. The only thing the party of Personal Responsibility is responsible for is the FAILURE to reject the vile elements that co-opted it. Some day, it may be okay to be a Republican again, once there is a Republican party again.

Good advice from Dr. King following the contentious 386-day Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955-1956: Demonstrate the calm dignity of our Montgomery people in your actions. In all things observe ordinary rules of courtesy and good behavior. Remember that this is not a victory for Negroes alone, but for Montgomery and the South. Do not boast! Do not brag! Be quiet but friendly; proud, but not arrogant; joyous, but not boistrous. Be loving enough to absorb evil and understanding enough to turn an enemy into a friend.

If we want to heal the deep divisions and come together to solve the great crises we face as a nation, we will have to adopt this frame of mind and spirit.

Janet, Paul Ryan is too far to the right. If he and Mitt gave in on some reproductive rights issues I think the outcome would have been different. In 2016, we need to elect someone who is more fiscally conservative but socially liberal. I think that is where the country is going. The country has changed.

I can only hope that Ryan becomes the next republican candidate for Pres. Then it will be an even bigger landslide for the Dems. Women voted big against Romney. They will go even bigger against that right wing wacko Ryan. Ryan disappeared at the end of the campaign because even Romney was afraid to let him out in public.

Who would you trust with your own, personal finances? The accomplished businessman or the people pleaser? This country missed a big opportunity to gain some real financial stability with a leader that has thrived in business and public service. Instead, the "people" chose "change" and "forward". Elections are about the good of the country FIRST, not narrow minded self interests. The leaders we choose are a direct reflection of the public that elects them. As a Massachusetts resident, yesterday's results are terrifying.

Job Two for the ‘new’ Republican PARTY -- tear up the Norquist pledges and send the scraps back to Grover.

Job Three for the ‘new’ Republican PARTY -- beg Jeb Bush to lead your party.

@Paul Bishop - thanks for the clarification on your background. On your own Patch description you wrote: "I hope you enjoy my contribution to the Marlborough Patch" -...so again, thanks for clarifying your background.

As to "give it up" -not a chance.

You are welcome to your own opinion, and I am welcome to my opinion. That is exactly why the Election 2012 was so close last night. The country is divided, and it happens to be Obama and his policies for the past 4 years in office. It will be "more of the same, if not worse...for the next 4 Obama years."

Read the comments about marijuana. Some people are pro, some against....but clearly, the Obama administration trying to take chocolate milk away from the schools and school children, and they have this Obama-push for marijuana, get real. Or Michelle Obama eating her fried chicken, while pushing the healthy eating agenda.....it's one or the other, be honest about it. Businesses are now reclassifing their full time employees, to under 30 hour/part timers. This is to avoid offering healthcare, as required by Obamacare.
Companies are going to hire more part timers to fill the hours that they took away from the full timers.
these part time hires will reflect in the weekly job report, making Obama look like he is creating jobs.
Are you going to lose your full time job, because of Obamacare?

If it’s true that the Republican Party needs rebuilding, I would suggest they start in the education sector. It seems to me that the liberal mindset is being learned in the schools. Teachers and professors across the nation are socially and fiscally liberal. Many, if not most teachers belong to unions. And I would guess most vote Democrat. If you want to build a conservative base for the future, why not start where most children learn? Obviously, this is a very long term goal.

I would also suggest (as others have) that the party drop the anti-abortion fight from the platform. This is driving a lot of fiscal conservatives away. I understand that people have principles and they don’t want to compromise them. And that’s fine, so long as you don’t mind losing millions of voters. The GOP has lost this argument, time to drop it.

And I disagree with the Ryan 2016 idea. I like Paul Ryan, but apparently millions of other Americans do not. I do like the Marco Rubio and/or Mia Love idea, but only if they can build a fiscally conservative and socially acceptable platform and a good, strong argument for it. No flip-flopping, no public-message-private-meaning.

I’m disappointed and a little surprised with the results today. I’m also disappointed, but not as surprised with some of the nasty comments here.

Be careful driving today.

@Chelmsfordmom - your earlier comment: "what Obama said was outright communism" - yes, but that is the real Obama. Go back and ask WRKO for the audio tapes of callers/listeners, from the 2007-2008'ish era...and the folks with Howie Carr, got it right. Obama's grades may have been sealed, but his activities, *friends* etc., they got it right, they know Obama best. Unfortunately for Obama, "We The People" and the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc.-guide us as a nation. Not him. And your second comment: "Paul Ryan is too far to the right, if he and Mitt gave in some on reproductive rights issues I think the outcome would have been different.".....well, that is why Romney/Ryan 2012 picked up so much momentum, Paul Ryan's thinking of being far to the right, actually does appeal to a lot of voters. Hence Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney picked up those votes, and not the pro-Obama socialist vote; note: he's not your typical liberal left-leaning democrat, he is a socialist. His talks, his books...his viewpoint. Read further on his financial supporters background(s).

The writer above who wrote about "tax and spend liberal in the White House, can we get someone to look into using marijuana as a taxable, legal revenue stream? Two states have voted for all-out legalization for adults"......that's an interesting point, strictly from a financial tax-raising standpoint.

And no, I do not use marijuana. Never have.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2047901/Paula-Deen-Michelle-Obama-ate-guest-Ive-show.html

Fried foods, to include: fried chicken, fried shrimp, fried wings (chicken). The article above states: "Healthy Appetite: Michelle Obama is said to enjoy hot wings in particular. The article goes on to state: "Paula Deen: Michelle Obama loves fried food and ate more than any other guest I've had on my show." First Lady kept on eating during the commercials. By Daily Mail Reporter: October 11, 2011.

The video clip(s) are in that article referenced, and google a search for the many other articles on that topic. Lots of articles, or get in touch with The Food Network in particular, ask for Paula Deen - and have her send you a copy of the video-segment. The live-video feed is available online, just watch the clip.

I come with a clean slate ( without prejudice) to this politics and here are my observations.

1. I heard both Romney and Obama speeches.
When Romney spoke, he sounds like a CEO talking.
When Obama spoke, he sounds like an 'inspiring' leader.

2. People in the crowd at victory/concession speech:
Romney: Looked like rich people to me.
Obama : people looked like ordinary people.

3. Stock market went down.
This suggest to me that they ( people with money) wanted Romney... so that
they all can make more money?

4. Its known that Romney opposed Obama's plan to tax rich.
People in this town opposed athletic field because many could not afford 20$/year
possible tax increase. If so ( and item 2 above), they should have voted for Obama.
But they didn't...
It does not add up the way many Tewksbury residents are thinking when they voted Romney over Obama.

A lot of venting going on here which is good. Suggest we all get it out of our system today and then put it behind us. I, for one, am tired of the anger and hatred by the extremes of both parties. Enough is Enough. We have voted, and we now have the House we voted in for two years, and the senate till 1/3rd are up in two years, and our president for four. Now is the time to be Americans, to move our country forward, to work out compromises on our major problems, to be civil with each other. We have the opportunity to do so, and failure to do so will achieve nothing but make our situation worse, to tear down what America stands for. Rather than bitching about our problems, do something about it. Write your representatives. Let them know how you feel. Take part in your local politics and express your views at public meetings. Remember, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

The payroll tax was going to happen regardless of who won the election. That is a true statement. Neither the D's or the R's were going to touch that. What many don't know is that it will increase another 1% for the workers & employers and double that for Self Employed. Why? It is written in Obamacare....to help pay for the law. This is another one of those "hidden" taxes in the bill we were not told about. Now, besides having insurance premiums rising to pay for this "affordable" health care reform, we will be seeing so many other "little" increases to pay for this fiasco. Again, the voter shows their ignorance when it comes to issues they should pay attention to. The politicians really count on us NOT doing our "due diligence". Those who are happy today will be the one's crying the loudest in the near future, yet, come election time, they'll vote the same way again. Those in office know this because history keeps repeating itself. If we remain as ignorant as we are today, this country will no longer exist in 25 years. I won't be here to see it, I'll be worm food by then. It's those I leave behind I feel sorry for.

Below is a very salient piece for today, I dare anyone who is fuming to read it through. The question Conservatives need to ask themselves is why they were so wrong in their predictions. Hint: it's because they have turned away from their evidenced based, pragmatic, actual 'conservative' roots. They used to make fun of liberals of being so fixated on ideology without paying attention to reality. Well, they are guilty of the same in spades, especially since they merged Conservatism with Religious Fanaticism and Know-Nothing politics. Your roads back into power won't be through that place....you'll need to work harder to build a more honest coalition, one that doesn't run on bile alone. One willing to help this country move legislation, not just stamp its feet.

I wish you well, for the good of the country (and both parties....competition will only help).

This article doesn't address the power of the "mainstream" media and its affect on elections. Day after day of left wing propaganda, lies by omission (Benghazi was completely whitewashed), takes its toll on a public already experiencing information overload. I would bet a boat load of money that the overwhelming majority of voters who paid very little attention to anything but news headlines and some pop culture coverage supported Obama. If even a small fraction of these idiots didn't vote, Romney would have won. The so called intellectuals make up a tiny base of the Democratic coalition. Alright, let's be real here. America is not going to become a communist nation because Obama was elected to a second term. It's just not going to happen. Obama is not a socialist, he is not a communist, and he is definitely not a fool. He is a member of the Democratic Party, and your president as well. Regardless of where you fall party-wise, accept that, and respect that. Do you all see what is going on here? This is an article for the Patch, and we're all calling each other names, using offensive language, and bashing each others' political beliefs. This is exactly the problem in Washington. Simply put, there must be an olive branch that is offered, and accepted, by both parties. Is it going to be an easy solution? Of course not. But it can be done. It's been done before (Civil War, Great Depression, Reagan era anyone?), and it can be done again.
Look, I'm 18 years old and a first time voter. I understand that I don't have the "experience" that some of my elder fellow citizens may have. But I do have an equal say, and I truly believe that I am an educated voter, as are many Americans my age. So please, don't feel bad for us. We can handle ourselves down the road, when the political reigns are passed down to us, just like previous generations have. Remember, these upcoming generations are the future of America, so let's not act like we don't know, and never will know, how to handle ourselves. We can do it.

In making such prophecies--in itself a questionable, historically unwise activity--you inevitably raise the question: What if you are wrong? How much energy are you willing to expend to make SURE that you are wrong? How much are YOU willing to do--to compromise, to empathize, to change--in order to guarantee a better world for everyone? Not only you and your children, but all Americans? Or are you, as so many on this Patch seem, quite dedicated to the cause of disaster, just so long as you can blame "the dems"? Oddly enough, Mr. Boehner gets it. Do you???

My feelings, now that I've had time to contemplate the results, this president's legacy will be "he created the greatest division this country has ever seen". He said he would fundamentally change the country, he has, and I feel we may be beyond reuniting this, once great, nation. The division runs so deep, we may be seeing the real end to this country, that I love.

This is exactly what I was referring to. If people continue on with this theory that the country will be coming to an end because President Obama was reelected, we the people of the United States, are going to have a larger problem on our hands. If there is an unwillingness to reach out and cross partisan lines at times, then we will continue to be "divided," as you put it. I'm not saying that everything must be an appeasement to both sides, but there needs to be some idea of cooperation. This nation can still continue to be great, but attitudes like this are not going to help that happen in the slightest. It swings both ways!

If the term Liberal had the same connotation today that it did years ago (Stood for Liberty), I would consider myself a Liberal. Unfortunately, today it stands for Regulating to the extreme, redistribution of one's earnings and many other social programs that infringe on one's liberities. I am a very charitable person, giving to charities of MY CHOICE. I probably give a greater %age of my income to charity than the "so called" Liberals (ask Joe Biden). I do this because I wish to. It is a moral obligation to "voluntarily" help others. It is not my obligation to have others confiscate my income and squander it foolishly. The more the govt takes from me, the less I have to give to quality charities. I give only to organizations that utilize what I give to the utmost. Unlike govt agencies that have too many employees, too many benfits, etc. 90% + of what I give is utilized properly. Can you say the same for the way govt spends YOURS & MY tax dollars? If you believe that what govt does with your $$$, I truly feel sorry for you, because you are a fool to allow this useless spending of OUR $$$ and just stand by doing/saying nothing about it. I was taught not to waste by parents who busted their asses to provide for me. Get over the fact that I'm probably a much better citizen because I'm "frugal" and watch where my $$$ goes. I'm sick of politicians telling me they know better than I do. That's crap!!!

JG, I understand where you are coming from, but at the same time, it was the majority vote of the people of Massachusetts that elected them. As a state, we elected them. Sure, I can see that you're frustrated. I think we all are to a certain extent. But there is no one at fault for electing these officials in. We all exercised the same right, and the Democrats prevailed. If there is no one that you believe is truly speaking up for you in Washington, speak up and say something yourself! It's not a machine, it's the vote of the American people. And if that's what you think a Ponzi scheme is, perhaps you should read up on the definition of a Ponzi scheme a little more.

I think there was a matter of terrorists crashing jets into wall street and other such inconvenient truths that may have contributed to the stock market crash in Bush's first nine months in office. Then there was the housing bubble issue promulgated by the Community Reinvestment act of 1977. Then there was Wall street not helping by packaging and selling derivatives. Those are just the highlights contributing to the stock market decline in Bush's terms in office. So how was any of this Bush's fault?

Thanks to the LEADERSHIP of BOTH parties, my grandchildren now owe the govt roughly $236,000, as do yours. Yet, none of them are of age that they can work to pay off their debt. This debt is going to increase greatly, by the time they reach adulthood. Still, so many are gloating that their man won or the other lost. Don't you realize that not one of us won anything. We, the people, all lost. The man that won is for more spending, without regard to revenue. Those in Congress, for the most part, feel the same way. By law, they can SPEND more than they get. They do as they please, taking from Peter to pay Paul.
Maybe a good thing would be to fall off that Fiscal Cliff, declare bankruptcy. It is not fair that these men & women leading us are financially ruining the next several generations. Face it...they don't give a crap because they will be long buried before our heirs have to pay for their actions. So, giddy voter, think about the reality of your govt. Take your "freebies" now. Nothing is free. Somewhere down the line, the bill collector will be calling for his payment, IN FULL. Once the "freebies" no longer exist, all hell is going to breakout. It won't be pretty. Blood will be flowing in the streets (not theoretically, either). Enjoy it now, our govt, whether you want to believe it, or not, has really screwed YOU, I & future generations. Thank God my time is winding down, most likely I won't see the devistation they leave for my grandkids.

A naive bunch here--its all a game; an emotional game to manipulate the little minds of the masses. Rationality is used to justify the self interest of ALL participants--
"You know, if you’re a successful politician, you know you don’t succeed by figuring out what’s really going on in the world and trying to explain it to people. You need to find out what people what to hear and then tell it to them. That’s what you see in debates. That’s what you see voters, successful politicians instinctively are trying to read people, trying to read their faces, what does this person want me to say to him, and that’s how they win."

So, so true. In Peabody we see people get onto School Committee pledging to build new schools. "Teachers can't teach in what we have today." Parents scream their approval, without thinking that the new school would be open long after their kids are too old to go there, and then the MCAS results come in and we find that "Teachers can't teach" in the new buildings, either.

What is absolutely frightening is that these are the same tactics, and motives, seen 70+ years ago in Germany, and it largely goes back to Machiavelli (if you've never read "The Prince" you should.... it's a "how to" manual that will shed light on why politicians choose political expediency over doing what's right.

It covers everything you posted above and more: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/

The simple fact is what you have been told is wrong. It goes against Obama so you believed it. I don't know you personally, so I can't speak to your level of intelligence, so I won't call you dumb. And I am certainly not saying Democrats are always correct. What I *am* saying is that when something sounds so completely and absolutely foolish (like what you posted above, Sarah Palin's concept of "Death Panels" or the idea Obama was not an American Citizen), believing those things and repeating them as fact makes you look even more foolish. People *will* question your intelligence at that point.

There are facts and there are talking points. PLEASE note the difference. The majority of the United States already has.

Nice try, J. Parker. Didn’t Barnum once say that “there is a sucker born every minute”?

Although your list is commonly attributed as originating with a letter sent to Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana by Dr. Stephen E.Fraser, an Indianapolis anesthesiologist, or as a letter sent to the River Cities Tribune by David Kithil, a former county judge in Marble Falls, Texas, it is actually the work of a Peter Fleckenstein, who issued the list as a series of Tweets and posted it to his blog in July 2009.

This list refers to the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, which was never passed by Congress. A completely different bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, became the basis for what is now known as "Obamacare." Many of the entries in the list are therefore irrelevant and outdated, as they address aspects of health care reform legislation that were never enacted by Congress (particularly the "public option" for a government insurance plan).

Virtually every statement included in this list is exaggerated, misleading, inaccurate, or outright erroneous.

Next Tuesday the Congress is in session and hopefully will get to work on the financial issues that have to be addressed before the end of the year. The solutions will require compromise on both sides. Would suggest keeping track of those not willing to compromise or work together (My way or the highway!) and as for the House of Reps, they are all due for elections in 2014. 2013 is the year to begin to work with or against those Reps whose views agree/disagree with ours. Until then, write our current reps and senators and let them know how you feel . Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. Again, let them know how you feel. A postcard, a short letter, it will be read by someone and a tally kept of views which will make it to our reps. None of these guys/gals want to be fired and we, by means of our vote, can fire them.

The election results of 2010/2012, What do they mean ?

Voting for Obama is like sleeping with a Whore according to Silvio Berlusconi, you feel great while you're doing it, you feel disgusted after the deed. You feel regret once the doctor tells you the bad news about your new STD's. I guess what I'm worried about. What will children inherit further on down the road and not past indiscretions. The danger to our country and the world is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the office of the Presidency. It would be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. Cognitive Linguistics only proves out that the opiate of the people would be comprised of that entity providing for what the people want. As our children are enabled our adults are entitled which is why Obama won the heart and souls of our people. We are plagued and damned as a people to one way of thinking, brain washed by media from all sources. What is needed is a new awakening, and opening up of ones mind. "Being responsible and mindful" The problem is much deeper and far more serious than President Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.

On the way home, I had the radio on, a liberal rant from WBUR/NPR radio. Without a trace of embarrassment or irony in Tom Ashbrooks voice, the newscaster spoke about a mock vote taken at the local high school. "Barack Obama won in a landslide," he gushed. After two generations of leftist indoctrination by unionized educators, whose quid pro quo relationship with the Democrat party is written in stone, I don't doubt it for a minute. Nor was I particularly shocked earlier this year when my daughter came home from nursing school asking me about who Madam Curie was. Also about her professors at Salem State University whom saturated my daughters mind about who was in control of her body, vaginas and future generations. Also how Obama was the Messiah and that everyone was expected to vote all Democratic this time around or else the Tea Party would take away their right to terminate 9 month old fetuses in the womb. They deferred to the Tea Party as the cause of every problem in our society from Birth Control, Rape and Homosexuality. Literacy? If it can't be reduced to 140 characters for Twitter's sake, it no longer matters.

Kids are no longer ashamed of being ignorant. In fact, many of them are proud of their cluelessness. Now, most of them barely know what shame is, other than having someone say something bad about them on FaceBook. And pride is all about owning the latest gadget, replacing the gadget that replaced the gadget before that. How about a free Condom ?
