City Council's President, Vice President Re-Elected

Both men faced challengers.

President Robert Maiocco and Vice President Frederick Dello Russo were both re-elected to their respective posts despite facing opposition during the City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Maiocco, who has served as president for 13 years, was challenged by Councilor Michael Marks. Robert Penta nominated Marks noting it was a tough decision given his friendship with Maiocco, but “this is the type of position that needs to be shared.”

He added that Marks had “more than paid his dues” by serving on the council for 10 years, and before that, four years on the School Committee. But nonetheless, the council voted 5-2 in favor of Maiocco.

Marks returned the favor during the vice president voting process as he nominated Penta for the position. But the council again decided to stay the course re-electing Dello Russo by a 5-2 vote.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the people of our community,” said Dello Russo. “We have a robust agenda set before us.”
