IBEW 2222 workers go on strike with Verizon during contract negotiations.

Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2222 were on strike at the Verizon office on Mystic Ave Friday. Contracts with IBEW expired Saturday night and union members have been on strike since.

According to Paul Hurley, a union member, Verizon is trying to reduce pension benefits, revoke certain paid holidays, and increase medical insurance costs. In past negotiations the union accepted lower pay increases to gain these rights.

"We know we'll have to make some concessions, but Verizon expects to have their terms on the table and for us to sign," said Hurley.
