Medford firefighters battled large flames at a Chinese restaurant on Salem Street Saturday morning, tamping out a fire that damaged neighboring businesses and displaced six nearby residents.
Firefighters responded to the Lucky Star Chinese Restaurant, at 466 Salem St., a little after 6 a.m., according to Deputy Chief Martin Cunniff of the Medford Fire Department.
He said it was "a pretty good size" two-alarm fire, and firefighting companies from Somerville and Malden also responded.
Cunniff, speaking at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, said a fire investigation unit was still on the scene and the "cause is under investigation."
Some firefighters received minor injuries fighting the blaze, and although Lucky Star Chinese Restaurant does not directly abut residential buildings, the fire was large enough that some nearby residents were displaced, he said.
According to the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts, the organization assisted six people—four adults and two children—with hotel stays and emergency funds for food and clothing.
Cunniff said investigators Saturday morning were assessing the amount of damage cause by the fire.
