Medford Among 'Best Places to Live 2013' Per Boston Magazine
The publication looks at what are among the best places for young buyers, and Medford made the cut.
The accolades keep rolling in for Medford has a great place to live in the Boston area for young home buyers.
Medford was named one of the "Best Places to Live 2013" in the March issue of Boston magazine. The magazine was highlighting some of the "great sleeper locations for first-time home buyers locally."
Playing off the popular colloquialism for the city's name, Boston said "Meffa has become Mecca for young, urban buyers" and touted its median home price of $355,000.
Boston praised Medford for its "open space, new riverside bike path, and happening restaurant scene," saying they are "attracting young creatives in droves" to the city.
Medford's single-family homes are a third-less expensive than similar properties in Somerville and one of the lowest tax rates locally, according to the magazine.
Boston specifically mentioned two developments, River's Edge and Station Landing, that are attracting younger buyers.

Do the people who rate these stories actually visit medford...I've lived here all my life and what I've seen is rising crime, stagnant business growth, poor, poor test scores from our students, traffic galore, no nightlife at alland home to some of the most obnoxious and ignorant people I have ever met..station landing and rivers edge are nice but most medford people don't go to these places...ever..if that constitutes what makes a best place to live the standards are low..first that trash can named Malden gets awards now medford..people must be getting paid off..or they are comparing it to chelsea...is take virtually 90 percent of.the towns north and west of meffa to live in before I chose here and believe me soon I will.

A certain proportion of these young first-time homebuyers are likely to become parents. If we want to keep a stable, healthy community it is all the more important that we fund Medford's schools. I do NOT have children in Medford schools, but high-quality schools--and yes, they will cost money--are essential to a healthy and prosperous community.

haha...love it! I have lived in Medford for about 16 years now and I love it. Sure, there's definitely room to improve but overall I find it safe and affordable. If you go looking for the bad in a neighborhood, you will always find it.

I agree with the article. Love living here. Happy to see some new businesses come in - Salvatore's, Carroll's, Tenoch - and the return of the Bestseller's Cafe.

I like living here, great schools but the city looks dirty in areas it needs to plant some nice trees on mystic ave , more foot patrols by the police in the summer.

I love Medford too. More walking patrols by the police would be great. Unfortunately I know we don't have enough police for that.

I live in Malden now and miss living in Medford very much. When I was growing up in Arlington Medford was a HORRIBLE place to live, not so now. Except for the high school we have great schools, yeah we're low on cops and we have buildings that need repairs but that's because the mayor and council won't agree on things. I know for a fact that Arlington High has WAY more problems with drugs in that school then Medford does now. I think the article hit the nail on the head. If I were starting out again, I'd live in Medford
