Mayor Michael J. McGlynn today announced Medford’s extensive summer recreation program schedule.
“Once again, we are extremely grateful to East Cambridge Savings Bank for their generous donation of $10,000 to the City which assists in the funding of this program. East Cambridge Savings should be commended for their outstanding dedication to the youth of our community.”
The Summer Recreation program will be directed by Julia Damon and Ann Arsenault. The City’s Park instructors will be located at Victory Park, Wrights Pond, Hormel/McGlynn Playground and Barry Park. The park program began on June 25th and runs until August 17 and is scheduled for 9 AM – 1 PM each weekday. Why not bring park league back to Harris park. On a average the past several years we had 30 or more so kids, it was shaded. As I drove by the mcglynn it had about 10 kids. Bring it back to the popular park where kids actually attended

We are fortunate to have these programs offered this summer. The only con is that we were not informed sooner. Most parents arrange camp by April. Had I not already paid for camps I would of signed my kids up for some of the programs.

And shamefully, the West Medford Community Center will again be void of any children's programs - as they are year round. I still don't understand the purpose of a community center that essentially has its doors locked to the community - with scores of children in this neighborhood alone who could benefit from some structured programs.

The price of a family pass to Tufts Pool has increased $10 every year since I first moved back to Medford. As a single parent of three teenage boys, I can't afford $80-$100 for a pool pass that can only be used for 6-8 weeks over the summer. This price is ridiculous for the use of a "community pool"
