Medford's Arantxa King missed qualifying for the Summer Olympics final in the long jump by the smallest of margins during competition Tuesday in London.

King, 22, representing Bermuda, leaped 6.40 meters in her first jump, which ended up being her best of the competition. She had a line violation on her second attempt and covered 6.20 meters in her third and final attempt.

The 6.40 meters jump was good for an overall finish of 13th -- one spot short of making the final round competition tomorrow. Veronika Shutkova of Belarus earned the last spot in finals, according to official results; though the results show her best jump measured at 6.40 meters, as well.

King was hanging on to the 12th spot with three unqualified competitors remaining. That's when U.S.A.'s Brittney Reese, who had line violations in each of her first two jumps, touched the sand 6.57 meters from the jump line.

King was born in Bermuda but raised in Medford and went on to star in Track and Field at Stanford University, where she was a three-time All-American.
