Following the lead of Gov. Deval Patrick, Medford Public Schools have pre-emptively closed school Monday as Hurricane Sandy plods toward New England.

The school department closed schools within hours of a press conference held by Patrick Sunday evening, in which he requested all schools in Massachusetts close tomorrow.

St. Clement Parish Schools in Medford have also announced they will be closed Monday.

Tufts University has also canceled classes Monday.
