Medford High School will open play in their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls basketball in action tonight.
They will participate in the preliminary round of the North Division 1 playoffs at home tonight against Chelmsford at 7 p.m.
Medford is ranked 16th in the division after completing their regular season with a 10-10 record. Chelmsford comes in ranked 17th with an 8-10 record.
The winner of tonight's contest will travel to face top-ranked Lynn English (20-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, boys basketball will be on the road at the start of their North Division 1 tournament Tuesday.
The ninth-seeded Mustangs (13-7) will travel to face eighth-seeded Andover (14-6) at 7 p.m.
The winner will then travel to face top-seeded St. John's Prep (18-2) at a time and date to be determined.
Medford girls hockey will play Wednesday night at 8:15 p.m. in the preliminary round of the MIAA Girls Division 1 tournament. They'll be the 18-seed after finishing with a 10-7-3 record and face 15th-seeded Medway-Ashland (11-6-3). The game will be played at New England Sports Center in Marlborough.
The winner will face second-ranked Beverly/Danvers (16-2-2) at a date, time and place to be determined.
As of Monday morning, the MIAA had not posted tournament information for the MHS boys hockey team, which finished the year with a 9-10-1 record.
