Stop and Shop to Lease Medford Foodmaster Location
Chain plans to open new grocery store there.
The Foodmaster on Salem Street in Medford is closing, but there are already plans in place to open a new supermarket at its storefront.
Supermarket chain Stop and Shop plans to aquire the lease at 471 Salem St. before the end of 2012 and then open a store there, according to a press release from Stop and Shop.
Stop and Shop plans to open the new store "quickly" after the lease is aquired, but no timetable was given in the press release. Employees at Foodmaster who want to work at the new store will be given a chance to interview, the release said.
Stop and Shop already operates a supermarket in Medford at 760 Fellsway, less than two miles from the Salem Street location.

I was really hoping for a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's or Market Basket in that location. Stop and Shop's ok though - better than Foodmaster!

A good business choice. Its no further away from the Fellsway than the one they put where Somerville Lunbar used to be.

I hope our city officials keep an eye on this and do not allow this propery to stay empty. I hope this is an untrlized concern of mine.

Hey,what wrong with Market Basket for West Somerville?I live in Medford, near Tufts and Johnnies Food Master is near there! How in the hell that the students at Tufts going to eat for cheap while living in the apartments? The tuitions are HIGH at that college !Will they going to get money from their folks??? I could save money on the gas to go to West Somerville, after all I am UNEMPLOYED and was a former student at other colleges too!

I would much rather see a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or even a Market Basket. Stop and Shop has already saturated the market here. Besides the locations on the Fellsway and where Somerville Lumber used to be, they have 2 stores in Malden. The only other option we have is Shaws across from the Meadow Glen Mall. Not only are they expensive, but I found their produce infested with fruit flies this Summer. For the record I am not entirely anti-Shaws. The one in Porter Square is nice, but unfortunately not the one near me.

Did you know that Shaws in Porter Square is a lot more expensive than Shaws near
Meadow Glen Mall ! What the BIG different between these two stores?Tell me about Johnny Food Master in Somerville, what will the people who live next door to this store will say about this?I am about about the people who live in the project house on the left side of the store and the apartments building across the street
from the right side of the store! Where will they go shopping ,if they can't afford for
the foods from Whole Foods store and not only that ,they don't have a car to get to the stores to get the cheapter stores for FOODS! It will cost MORE money to get a cab compare to the FOODS!

Hi folks,it me again! Let me take the letter "t" off on the word "cheapter" to "cheaper",sorry about this,I typed too fast! I can't afford to buy a software called "Dragon Speaking Software" like the girl above me,because the prices of the FOODS from Whole Foods store are TOO EXPENSIVE,THAT WHY! ..Oop! Not again! Let me remove the word "about" between the words "am" and " about" change that to "talking." Boy,I really need that software very badly! I will wait when there a discount at "Micro Center" in Cambridge ,that way I'll have enough money to go to "Trader Joe's" to buy cheaper foods near by the computer store.I was hoping the gas prices will go down by then.
