With Johnnie's Foodmaster and other Medford businesses shuttering this year, it got us thinking: Which old local business do you miss most?
If you could have one now closed Medford business reopen, which one would it be? Let us know by posting a comment in the comments section below.

Johnnie's Foodmaster in West Medford was such a great place. It was small, by supermarket standards, but they had just about anything you'd want. That store was one of the reasons I decided to move here in the 80s, and when it closed West Medford lost an important part of the community.

Hey, Frank...my feelings exactly. I moved to West Medford from the South End of Boston in 1990 because of the diversity and that little funky supermarket. I'll never get over the loss, I shopped ther every day. On foot. Salt in the wound that is was bought by Brooks to put a wedge between 'competing' CVS stores. Brooks is now dissolved as a company. Great planning. And now we all lose the Alewife Foodmaster. What are the folks in the Powderhouse public housing, the Somerville elderly (in the towers), and East Arlington public housing (remember them?) supposed to do for a supermarket? Or a market of any kind? And where has the flower truck gone?

I totally agree. We too moved here in the 80's and loved the Johnnie's. It was a huge blow to have it change to what it is now.

It's a shame Johnny's and other local businesses are closing, while other Medford "institutions" live on, despite the fact they offer much less to the community
