The most recent forecast from the National Weather Service is calling the impending major winter storm a "potential historic" one that could drop up to two feet of snow on Medford and the outlying region.

A blizzard watch will be in effect from Friday morning until Saturday afternoon with much of Eastern Massachusetts to be affected by the storm. Snow accumulation is expected to be between 18 to 24 inches, according to the NWS.

Light snow will be developing Friday morning and will increase in density by Friday afternoon. NWS is reporting the most heavy snow will come Friday evening into Saturday morning.

It's possible snow could fall at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour, according to the NWS.

Travel could be "nearly impossible" with blowing and drifting snow as northeast winds are expected to be between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
