With the spring season winding down, it seems like there hasn’t been a week yet untouched by the irksome hand of seasonal precipitation. Last week was no different. The sound of tearing paper could be heard across Medford, as coaches simultaneously ripped up their schedules, which the rain rendered largely useless. With nearly all of the Medford High teams looking like good bets for the postseason, all that remains is to handle the business left on the schedule. Medford boys baseball continued its march towards the postseason last week, and swept through the schedule in fine fashion. The Mustangs handled Framingham 2-1, in eight innings on May 10, behind a 3-for-3 performance from Chris Hayes—who also plated a precious run with an RBI double in the third inning. With the rain making a return last week, Medford largely escaped the postponements that plagued some other area schools. It was business as usual for the Mustangs on the fields of play, as every team saw action, and mostly enjoyed positive results. With most of the Medford teams in the hunt for, or already in possession of, league titles, the next few weeks should be very interesting around the athletic fields of Medford. With the clouds finally relenting last week, the student athletes of Medford High were able to get back to the business at hand. With nearly every Medford High squad either alive in the hunt for a league title, or with one already in hand, the local sports action only figures to heat up during the run-in to the end of the season. With rain interrupting things a bit last week throughout the area, the wet weather didn’t put a damper on MHS’ student athletes one bit. The brief snowstorm that greeted April 1 may not have shouted spring from every Medford rooftop, but the student athletes of Medford High School’s presence on the spring fields of play certainly does. The Mustangs got things off to a fine start on the softball diamond, as they tallied an impressive 10-4 win over Arlington at Tufts Park on April 8.
