5. The exercise is good for you, or for the person you hire.  Snowshovel, snowblower or plow, you will get exercise.

In Medford, it's the law.  Otherwise known as City Ordinance 74-114 states that the tenant or occupant has to make sure the snow is removed from the sidewalk infront of their property.  This is for commercial and residential properties.  The easiest way to see text of this is the Medford Police website. Additionally the State Supreme Court recentally reinforced this duty.  Medford's Code Enforcement Officer gave out over 100 tickets two winters ago for non-shoveling.

3. It's neighborly. People like to get out and exercise by walking down the street after snow.  Elderly people, people with young children and your neighbors will go out and walk, and if you don't shovel, they may fall, or choose to walk in the street. 

2. Children will need to get to school or bus stops.  Many of our children walk to bus stops and they should be able to walk down clear sidewalks.

1. If it rains on top of the snow, it will get much, much harder to shovel, and will get icy and impossible to remove.  It's supposed to rain Monday, but won't wash away 2-3 feet of snow.
