Free Raffle at Harvest Your Energy Festival 2013 this Saturday!

Come to the Harvest Your Energy Festival this Saturday, October 26th! This exciting, family friendly event is hosted by the Medford Energy Committee, the Medford Office of Energy & Environment and Mass Energy Consumers Alliance. It will be held from 11am-2pm at the base of the Medford Wind Turbine, in Riverbend Park, behind the McGlynn Middle School on Freedom Way.

New this year is a paper shredding truck with free paper shredding for Medford residents (limit 7 boxes per Medford resident, please). The Medford Crew Team is also hosting an electronics recycling fundraiser in the adjacent parking lot. There is a fee per item recycled, and they will not accept TVs.

At Noon, the Medford Green Awards will be presented to this year’s recipients by Mayor McGlynn, Fred Laskey, Medford Energy Committee Chair and Jodie Coyne, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, the event will feature music, education, food, children’s crafts and more! Take a tour of “Windy” the wind turbine, and learn about local organizations’ green products and practices. Find out about green energy and discount heating oil from Mass Energy, and learn how to save energy and money with home energy assessments. Medford middle schoolers can show you how wind turbines work and teach you about other green things they are learning in science class.

There are awesome raffle prizes to give away; anyone who checks in at the festival gets a FREE raffle ticket. Prizes include rain barrels, compost bins, smart strips, a Dance Caliente gift certificate, a wind turbine mosaic, and more!

Come see Tufts B.E.A.T.s rock out on the drums and hear local folk singer Miranda Hynes. When you get hungry, grab some food from local Medford vendors who will be selling food at the festival!

This year marks our 4th annual event, and past years have been amazing successes! This festival is a great opportunity to get involved with Go Green Medford efforts and spend a fun-filled day with your family and the community. Can’t wait to see you there!
