Hallmark Health System adds charging stations for electric cars

As part of Hallmark Health System’s (HHS) commitment to improving the environment and the health of its communities, a number of environmentally “green” programs have been introduced over the last few years including recycling, linen use programs and facility projects that reduce energy use. Now, HHS is pleased to announce its newest initiatives – electric car charging stations for employees, physicians and visitors.

HHS has added charging stations for electric cars at Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital (MWH). The LMH charging station is located in the Emergency Department parking lot by the power plant building. The MWH location is on the first floor of the parking garage adjacent to the handicapped parking spaces across from the elevator. Charging will be free of charge for a limited time; a nominal charge will be assessed beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

Nicole Bloor, MD, president of the HHS medical staff, believes it is important to create more of these charging stations. “Installing more charging stations for electric cars is an important step that encourages the use of these vehicles and thus helps us to reduce carbons emissions. I drive a plug-in hybrid car which is perfect for my short commute of less than 30 miles. But for those who take longer trips, the greater availability charging stations would make all the difference in deciding to buy an electric/hybrid car or a conventional car. I commend Hallmark Health System for taking a leadership role on this issue."
