Local riders invited to join new Boston Marathon Motorcycle Ride to support the Jimmy Fund, August 11

BOSTON – Local motorcyclists are invited to join the first-ever Boston Marathon Motorcycle Ride on Sunday, August 11, to fight cancer and change the lives of those affected by the disease. Registration for the 65-mile ride is $35 per motorcycle and $10 per passenger. All proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The event will begin near the start of the Boston Marathon route in Hopkinton at 11:30 a.m. Participants will travel down the full Boston Marathon route and over the finish line on Boylston Street in Boston. Riders will then continue on to Cambridge where the event’s organizer, Fred Georgoulis, of North Andover, said riders will stop to honor slain MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, who was a dedicated Jimmy Fund supporter, with a wreath-laying ceremony at North Court on the MIT campus. From there, riders will continue to the end of the ride in Lowell to enjoy festivities including live entertainment and refreshments at the Lowell Pavilion.

Registration is open online and riders can also sign up on the morning of the event at the starting area between 8 and 11 a.m. All riders who pre-register will receive a 2013 Boston Marathon Motorcycle Patch.
