Medford Conservation Commission Seeking Applicants

The Medford Conservation Commission is currently seeking applicants to fill one Commissioner position and one Associate Member position.

The Medford Conservation Commission is responsible for the administration of environmental laws and policies, open space protection and management, water management, and preservation of natural features of the environment. The Commission administers and enforces the following: Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act (MGL Chapter 131 Section 40) and associated Wetland Regulations (310 CMR 10.00); Massachusetts Rivers Protection Act; City of Medford’s Wetlands Ordinance (Chapter 87); and Wetland Policies. The Medford Conservation Commission is required to protect and preserve wetlands and their surrounding areas, as well as open space.

The Commission is comprised of residents who bring a variety of expertise to the city, particularly in the areas of wetland resource management, stormwater management, environmental engineering, landscape planning & design and experience in the environmental industry.

Interested parties should apply by filling out this application. Potential candidates will then be contacted for an interview with the staff of the Office of Energy & the Environment. New members will then be appointed by the Mayor. Questions about the Medford Conservation Commission can be directed to Alicia Hunt, Director of Energy & Environment at ahunt@medford.org or Denis MacDougall, Associate Environmental Agent at dmacdougall@medford.org. Both can be reached at 781-393-2137.

As of August 2013, there is one vacancy for a Conservation Commissioner and one vacancy for an Associate Member. Associate Members receive copies of filings and are encouraged to attend meetings and provide input, however, they are not a voting member of the Commission. Associate Members who are interested in being Commissioners will be considered first when an opening on the Commission occurs.
