MIT Professional Education Celebrates Milestones at Philharmonic Orchestra Event

Cambridge, Mass. – George Ogata (left), MIT alumnus, founder and conductor of the MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra along with Bhaskar Pant (right), executive director of MIT Professional Education recently celebrated MIT Professional Education’s 65-year anniversary of its Short Programs and 50-year anniversary of its Advanced Study Program at the 19th annual MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra (MITSPO). The MITSPO has been the preeminent summer community orchestra for nearly two decades. Made up of top musicians from the MIT community and greater Boston area, MITSPO hosts a single concert event every summer. Ogata and the orchestra performed Smetana, The Moldau; Liszt, Mazeppa; and Sibelius, Symphony No. 2 in D major. MIT Professional Education is a proud host and sponsor of this event each summer.

MIT Professional Education provides a variety of continuing education and professional training programs for science, engineering and technology professionals worldwide. Short Programs offers professionals industry-focused two to five-day sessions, which take place primarily in the summer. The Advanced Study Program places professionals in regular academic courses. Participants of both programs learn from leading MIT faculty and gain crucial knowledge and skills to help fuel their careers or enhance their companies’ capabilities in a collaborative academic setting.
