Two Medford Teens return with ARMUN from NYC, Medford should be proud!

The Arlington Regional Model United Nations (ARMUN) high school club  is pleased to report that it recently returned from a very successful participation in the National High School Model United Nations Conference in New York City (March 5 – March 8).  The delegation, which included a sophomore from Medford High School and a Junior Medford resident who is homeschooled (names etc below),  represented the country of Azerbaijan in multiple United Nations Committees, and a highlight of the experience for most of the students was a two-hour briefing with a representative of the Azerbaijani UN Mission, who happens to have been the representative who served in the Security Council for 2012 and 2013.  One member of our delegation, Tano Mejia, was especially recognized for his performance by being chosen to speak for his committee during closing ceremonies.  The entire delegation was pointed out and selected for praise based on their excellent “politeness, courtesy, friendliness, and helpfulness” by both Senior Conference Staff and Management of the Hilton NY Midtown, where the 3,000 + student conference was held.  Students attended the conference from about 30 countries around the world and approximately 30 US States.  The ARMUN students are currently preparing a full “report-back” briefing to give to our funders and supporters, and we would gladly make it available to any community member who is interested in reading it.  We expect it to be available as a PDF document within two weeks; if you would like to receive a copy please email the club itself at ARMUN2013@gmail.com.

The Club is also pleased to announce that it is currently preparing for the United Nations Association of Greater Boston Regional High School Model United Nations Conference, to be held at Northeastern University May 16 & 17.  We currently have space for approximately 3 more high school students to join us for that conference, and any student, regardless of school attended or homeschool status, of high school age is welcome in our club.  There is no cost to belong to our club, although we do ask you to pay or to fundraise for the direct conference costs for those conferences you attend.  If interested in more information about the club,  please contact Club Advisor Kim Kay Holt at kimkayholt@gmail.com.

Current ARMUN HS Club Members include:  Molly Rookwood (Senior, Arlington High School), Chloe Singer (Senior, Arlington High School), Isabel Verghese (Senior Arlington High School), Sabrina Ross (Senior, Arlington High School), Vivian McElroy (Senior, Carrboro High School, Chapel Hill, NC), Tano Mejia (Junior, AHS), Claire Dickson (Junior, Homeschooled, resident of Medford, MA), Louise Tanner (Junior, The Cambridge School of Weston), Ezra Morrison (Junior, Homeschooled, resident of Medford, MA), Simon Ospenson (Sophomore, Medford High School), Julia Ruderman (Sophomore, Minuteman Regional Technical HS, Arlington resident), Forrest McElroy (Carrboro HS, Chapel Hill, NC), and Conrad Lusk (Carrboro HS, Chapel Hill, NC).

ARMUN also sponsors a middle school club for 5th – 8th grade students, again from any school or homeschool status, which is about to begin preparing for a conference in May as well.  It has room for only one or two new students to join for that conference, so if interested please get hold of Advisor Kim Kay Holt (kimkayholt@gmail.com) immediately.   Thank you.
