Wheelock College’s Anne Marie Martorana named Finalist for CFO Award in Boston Business Journal

Wheelock College proudly announces that Anne Marie Martorana, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO),Medford, MA resident, has been recognized by the Boston Business Journal as a finalist in their CFO of the Year Award.

The Boston Business Journal’s CFO of the Year recognizes CFOs who make a difference in their companies and community. Martorana is a finalist in the nonprofit category.  The winners of the CFO of the Year Award will be announced at a reception on July 31st, 2013 at the Sheraton Boston Back Bay.

“We are thrilled that the Boston Business Journal recognizes the amazing Anne Marie Martorana as a CFO of the Year finalist,” said Wheelock President Jackie Jenkins-Scott. “Her forward-thinking financial management and ability to lead effectively with varying elements of the College community have contributed to areas well beyond finance; she has truly gained the confidence of the faculty, her colleagues in the administration, including the entire leadership team and the Trustees.”

Martorana has served as Wheelock College’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2006.  In this role, she leads all functional activities related to finance, investments, human resources, legal and insurance matters.  She is also the senior officer responsible for the administration of the College's financial aid programs.  Previously, Martorana served as Wheelock's Associate Vice President for Finance from 2000-2006 and its Controller and Director of Financial Services from 1998-2000. 

Prior to joining Wheelock, she held corporate financial management positions for software and service companies focusing on the areas of accounting, financial management, treasury and tax, always drawn to organizations where mission mattered.

In addition to her professional duties at Wheelock College, Martorana volunteers her expertise in various organizations in greater Boston including; serving as a trustee at the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School in Boston, as the past treasurer and now as the current board chair. The Pacific Rim Charter Public School provides a full academic program to its students, most of whom are financial aid recipients from the inner city, and at the same time emphasizes the language, history and culture of the Asian world, with a particular emphasis on China, with most of the students spending some part of one academic year in that country. 

According to Susan J. Thompson, Executive Director of the Academy of the Pacific Rim: “Anne Marie Martorana is an outstanding member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees.  Her partnership with the school’s leadership is stellar, and we will be forever grateful for her service to our Academy.”

Martorana also serves as a volunteer on YouthBuild USA’s Audit and Finance Committees, on the Colleges of the Fenway, Inc.’s Audit Committee and as  Treasurer of NEEIA Compensation, Inc., a self-insurance group.  She guest lectures for Wheelock’s graduate organizational leadership program and for Boston College’s Lynch School of Education. Martorana regularly serves on visiting peer review teams for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).  A CPA, she earned her accountancy degree at Bentley University.
