Rev. Edward F. Doughty has been appointed as the pastor for the St. Francis of Assisi, St. Joseph collaborative, Cardinal Sean O’Malley announced Monday.

Doughty, a Woburn native, has been the pastor at St. Francis of Assisi for about two years. He studied at St. John’s Seminary in Boston and became an ordained priest in 1995.

The collaborative was announced in October. The parishes are two of 72 that have formed 33 collaboratives in order to better pool resources.

The collaboratives are a directive of Cardinal Sean O’Malley and Pope Francis I called “Disciples in Mission – A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston.”

St. Francis of Assisi is at 441 Fellsway West near Route 93, St. Joseph at 114 High St. in Medford Square.
