Medford’s Population Continues to Rise

Take a look at Medford’s growth in the last three years.

Medford’s population increased by 2 percent between 2010 and 2013, according to new U.S. Census data released this week.

Medford had 56,315 residents in 2010 and that number rose 855 to 57,170 in 2013.

The 2 percent figure for Medford is higher than the 1 percent median growth rate among Massachusetts communities that was reported by the Boston Business Journal but well below the 10 percent population increase in Cohasset, which saw the most growth in the state.

Communities near Medford also saw an influx of residents: Somerville 4 percent increase, Arlington 3 percent, Winchester 3 percent, Malden 2 percent and Melrose 2 percent.
