PHOTO: DPW Yard Demolished

The yard, originally named the Medford Municipal Garage, dates back to the 1930s.

The Medford Department of Public Works Yard at 21 James St. was demolished Monday morning.

Mayor Michael McGlynn, present and former members of the city’s DPW, state Rep. Paul Donato, City Councillors Rick Caraviello, Robert Penta and Michael Marks and School Committee member John Falco were on hand for the occasion, as were former DPW Director John “Jack” Buckley”, the present project manager for the new yard, and the present acting DPW Director Paul Gere.

The yard was a Work Progress Administration (WPA) project and was dedicated in 1937.
