POLL: How Walkable is Medford?

Does the city's reputation of being the 14th most walkable in Massachusetts ring true to you?

Considering that the City of Medford plans to improve sidewalks, we want to know how walkable you think the city is now.

According to WalkScore.com, Medford has a "Somewhat Walkable" score of 64, which ranks in a tie as the 14th most walkable city with at least 10,000 residents in Massachusetts.

But how does it feel to you? Take the poll and tell us in the comments.

I have sent numerous emails to the city regarding the sidewalks and the overgrown foliage and the broken up concrete on them. I still have not seen any improvement, especially along the Fellsway, Roosevelt Circle, along Spot Pond

Chris Bolton..I totally agree with you. When the Mayor looks out his window from City Hall..and looks across route 60 at the corner of Salem St. and Oakland Street. He can see the large 6 ft. wide bush or tree protruding out from the sidewalk at the end of Oakland Street across the drivers lane, making impossible to stay in the lane. You must cross over to the lane of on-coming traffic to make a right turn. Chris B. this may be why your emails go unanswered. When the Mayor can't see whats going on,or lack of whats going when its right under his nose ( 2-300 ft away)...is scary ..and it makes sense on why things never get started, completed, and fail to be maintain. Did you know that the city received by a $500,000.00 bond (that taxpayers must pay back) to fix the sidewalks? Don't hold your breath, DPW couldn't make a list.. This is the 3rd. half a million in the last few years to repair or replace..SIDEWALKS!! Soon I will be posting a Po Box Address for residents to send copies of emails,letters..request for "public records " "freedom of information act" request and anything else that the City Depts and the Mayors office..have Ignored, Declined to Comply or Take Action, or have gone Unanswered, Copies of anything you sent to city hall..that could help put light on on the total incompetents of the Mayor...his department heads and how they ignore the Tax payers and residents in medford. I'm glad you are also concerned about Medford being safe and clean.

South Medford has weeds as high as trees on some of its sidewalks, you have to in the street and risk your life with the crazy drivers!

For the time,I lived in Medford the sidewalks need painting. That's like waiting for BREAKFAST in bed.The city will never change until, You get rid of those that are in there NOW> Tax Payers pay for everything. They get no return FAVORS. Good Luck taxpayers.

Totally agree. I live in No. Medford and the sidewalk on my street is not paved and I have heard that it was going to be paved for the last 10 years now. The surrounding sidewalks in my neighborhood are all paved.

Where is the side walk and tree stump removal crews, hasn't happened around N. Medford. Elm St. is a disaster uneven sidewalks collapsed retaning walls overgrown areas, no curb cuts for handicapped, cars allowed to park on the sidewalk making kids, elderly, and the general public walk on a overly busy street. jay f, Whats not to trust? Why do your taxes get raised if you speak up in Medford about wanting ... what we pay for? The Mayor forgets" The Customer Is Always Right" The citizens are the customers. I'm doing this for my Dad. I have only been paying Taxes for over a decade. My Dad...40 plus years..neighbors more. I'm trying to get done what my Dad always wanted for his Wife, kids, grand kids and for this city. Clean and safe streets, good schools, the buildings for the police, fire and Dpw. My dad use to attend the community police meeting, 1st weds of the month. He stopped going when DiCharra left to work at a college..I forget which one. Well If I am going to be banished from the kingdom for wanting the best for the residents..so be it. Why would my taxes/assessment go up? its not like they actually come in your home..they don't even go to every house.( that's another story for another day.) Someone is making a documentary about medford..just helping to get them info for it. thanks jay f...I will be afraid..very afraid...but that won't stop me.

I walk 4 miles 3 times a week, the route varies...walking down riverside ave is brutal, overgrown weeds, no sidewalks, its rough...parts of the fells are good but others are full of glass and trash. I guess it really depends on what neighborhood your in...or what parts the dpw decides to attend to, seems like they tend to only work on certain areas of the city, and ignore others.
