'Circle the Square' to Bring Arts, Music, Food to Medford Square

New event will run every third Thursday through October, starting this week.

This report uses information from a press release provided by Medford's Coalition for Arts, Culture, and a Healthy Economy:

A new monthly program starting this week will bring music and arts to Medford Square through October.

On the third Thursday of each month between July and October Circle the Square will bring music, art, food trucks, activities and other free entertainment to Medford Square.

The program created by CACHE, the Coalition for Arts, Culture, and a Healthy Economy in Medford, and it's designed to make Medford Square a destination and make local entertainment accessible to all. It kicks off this Thursday, July 19. It runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Medford Square is an incredibly unique and beautiful region of our city with many spaces that lend themselves perfectly to entertainment opportunities.”  CACHE Programs Manager Allie Fiske said in a written statement.  “Programs like this have proven to be extremely successful in communities such as New Bedford, Pittsfield, and Jamaica Plain, and we’re excited to bring that momentum to our community and get people out and enjoy the talents and resources in their own backyards.”

Circle the Square will take place on July 19, August 16, September 20, and October 18.  A unique line-up of programs each month will take place in a variety of locations around the Square, including the plaza near the Salem Street Burial Grounds, the parking lot of Members Plus Credit Union, the newly renovated greenway by Clippership Drive, the walking bridge by Shipyard Way, Sloane Square in front of Century Bank, and the steps in front of City Hall.

Circle the Square is currently seeking musicians, dancers, theater groups, artists, and other performers to provide programming during any of the Circle the Square events.  In addition, the group is also seeking volunteers to help with the operations of each event. For more information about Circle the Square including a schedule of events, and how you can get involved, visit www.circlethesquare.org.

The events in the different cities have different names, they are not called "Circle the Square." Pittsfield's version is called "3rd Thursday": http://www.cityofpittsfield.org/city_departments/arts_and_culture/3rd_thursdays_is_back_in_2012.htm New Bedford's version is called "AHA" as you found: http://newbedford360.com/local-guide/aha-12.html Jamaica Plain's version is called "First Thursday:" http://www.jpcentresouthmainstreets.org/first-thursday.php

Raymay, Thank you for the links. Very interesting information. Medford should do well. With us having the mystic river and all our history in medford. Circle in the square should do just fine. I love the concept. Maybe an indoor version in the winter months. Should be fun for all. Tomorrow folks from 4pm.-8pm. Food, music, fun.
