Tell us a little about yourself and your background 

I grew up in Newton, MA and graduated from Brandeis University in 1976. I trained to be an optician with my Dad, Dr. Frederick Cohen-Optometrist. I assumed ownership of Medford Optical at age 22 and always had a strong interest in Pediatrics. After 5 years in business I proceeded to develop a Pediatric Eyewear Specialty in the optical profession.

In a nutshell, describe your business. 

Medford Optical is a complete family eyecare center with an independent Optometrist on premise. We have a Pediatric Eyewear Specialty and feature the largest selection of fashion eyewear for children in the entire Boston area. We cater to families of all ages and it is common to see us fitting glasses to the 80 year old senior citizen as well as the newborn baby.  

What is your favorite part about what you do? 

It is an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to make such a difference in a person's life when you help them select the correct eyewear and enable them to see and feel better. We often will be witness to young children walking for the first time when we dispense their new glasses. This enables the visually impaired child to function better and gain more mobility in a confident manner.

What's the most important thing you'd like your customers to know about your business? 

Medford Optical is a family business and we have been in Medford Square since 1976! Many of the area Ophthalmologists refer their patients to us for our expertise in filling the most complex prescriptions accurately  We value every customer that enters our facility and treat them as part of our "Medford Optical Family."
