Sei Bar Owners Open New Location in Wakefield

Customers in Medford suggested new location.

The owners of Sei Bar on Main Street in Medford have opened a new location in Wakefield.

The owner and manager of the restaurant, Jen Lin, said he decided to expand to Wakefield last year because a couple of regular customers at his Medford location suggested it to him.

"They helped me find a Wakefield location," he said.

It's the third Sei Bar to open in the area, with the other in Everett. The newest location is at 109 Water Street in Wakefield, formerly the location of Detorre's Italian Deli and Bella Cucina.

The menu has everything to be expected from a sushi bar: Sushi, sashimi, maki, special rolls and more, and the noodles, rice, and entrees of Thai and Japanese dishes. Prices range from up to $10 for appetizers, and up to $20 for specialty entrees.

Lin said his cuisine is different because the restaurant only uses healthy ingredients, like fresh vegetables, and everything is made fresh to order. Even the spare ribs are cooked to order.

"A lot of people get confused and ask why it takes 20 minutes for an order of spare ribs," he said. "But it's raw meat cooked to order. For our fish, we buy the whole fish, fresh."

Lin said the most popular items are the appetizer deluxe, regular maki rolls and special maki rolls, especially the B52 Maki, which includes deep fried salmon, crab, avocado and cucumber.

The Wakefield location will be open from Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
