Medford’s only McDonald’s, in the Meadow Glen Mall, recently closed.

It was unclear Wednesday if the McDonald’s has closed for good or is just undergoing renovations. We’ll post more information as soon as it becomes available.

The closure leaves the closest McDonald’s at:

  • 128 Broadway in Everett
  • 14 McGrath Highway in Somerville’s Twin City Plaza
  • 186 Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge’s Fresh Pond Mall
  • 114 Broadway in Malden

Are you lovin’ this news? Or would you like to see a McDonald’s in the city?

The mall needs a overhaul. Put in stores such as Aeropostale , justice ,
Laurie Pacini January 29, 2014 at 12:29 PM
That mall just needs a cannon ball with excessive force and build something better!!!

I agree Laurie. They need to bring in stores that people will shop at. Keep kohls and game stop and Marshall's and Claire's and add more popular stores that people frequent for themselves and kids. We don't need another high rise. Mystic ave needs to be another issue it's so dirty looking

McDonald's also leaving the Woburn Mall. It seems they don't want to pay the mall rent and are looking at a new business model for 2014. That's two mall McDonalds...wonder if this is a trend

Folks! Have some compassion. Where are all the shoplifters going to eat?
Just a Medford Guy January 29, 2014 at 10:52 PM
Bummer - Now it seems I'll have to travel pretty far to get my Big Mac Attack craving satisfied. Anyone tried the new "Big King" at Burger King ? Is it comparable?

The food was atrocious, outweighed only by the service (or lack there of). I love McDonalds, hate to admit it, but I would never eat at the mall one as I always ended up with gastrointestinal distress after. I'd rather take the ride up 93N to the Montvale Ave location. Much better!

Though people are making negative comments, it was the busiest and longest lasting food business in that mall, which already has very little to offer. I would think McDonalds is either exploring another site in the Medford area such as Wellington near Stop&Shop or at a location which they can stay open later at night. Those who argue for something better, will not get much of anything in that Mall for food. Just look at what your left with for choices now that are reasonable to feed a family.

John C., I try to avoid feeding my family what McDonald's sells.

Knock down that mall and build Station Landing Part Deux. Medford need as much residential and high end retail as possible.
John C. January 30, 2014 at 10:25 AM
Raymay you feel that way, but many people who have little to spend will still go to fast food places, which offer a variety of choices. I also make better choices and most of the time eat at home, but that's me. I go to a fast food place once in awhile. Many go much frequently and that's their choice.

McDonald's has a plan for world domination. This is clearly a business move. If Burger King is open 24/7 - as John C notes - McDonald's may want to as well. Competition, location and increased sales. Notice how it is simultaneous with Shaws, though. Is anyone left at the Meadow Glen Mall?

Every city should have a McDonalds. I remember the one in the square years ago. Having said that: What I really would like to see is a Triple AAA office. The closest one we have is in Saugus. There is much to offer members with regards to discounts. I miss the old stores in the mall. Cookies Cookn, Friendly's, York Steak House, etc. I think they should keep radio shack and put the cvs and a hair place there. Just my thoughts.

From the picture, it looks like the Ronald McDonald figure is gone. Any idea where he went? ..................... Spoiler Alert: Joe is going to say City Hall.
Tony Tonino January 30, 2014 at 05:25 PM
I wont miss it. Breakfast was only 1 hour long. You couldnt get any breakfast after 10:30 a.m.. The service was absolutly atroshis..The mall itself is old and dingy..Enough siad, SEE YA !!!!

Tracy I was going to say he appeared at the city council meeting the other night but Camuso shut him off. Actually I think that Ronald works at the BK down the street.

This was one of the worst mcdonalds. When we have the very occasional McD's fix, we zip a few exits up 93 to the Stoneham location, one of their nicest stores and just a few minutes away.
John C. February 02, 2014 at 08:03 AM
Josh I agree with you. It wasn't the best McDonalds around, if you like their food. However now everyone will have to drive much further if you want to go to one and handle the traffic along the way.

Hopefully it stays! Kids need some place to work. I didn't eat there much, but it satisfied my sporadic ice cream cone and french fry cravings. I always tried to talk to the kids working there and to show them that good customer service matters. Does anyone know who owns that franchise? (On another note, I really do hope Old country Buffet stays. That place is great to eat cheaply if you have a lot of kids.) As for malls in general, I think they are going to have a harder time in years to come with more people shopping online. I've been shopping online since the late 90s and early 2000s. I hate shopping -- especially malls, lines, and other shoppers. Online works best for me. That being said, when I want a cheap and simple ice cream cone, the McDonald's at Meadow Glenn mall was the answer.
