What’s Going in Next to Tedeschi on Main Street?

See what’s moving in.

By now, you’ve probably seen the large steel structure going up between Tedeschi and Bride ‘N’ Belle Boutique on Main Street, near Mystic Avenue.

But what will it be?

A bank and office space, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn said Friday.

The specific bank branch and the tenant for the office space aren’t known yet, he said. Construction has stopped for the winter.

The property used to be leased by Verizon.

Another bank, East Cambridge Savings Bank, is going in at the former Centre Arco Service Station in West Medford.

Another bank, great. Because the Citizens and Century branches a couple blocks up from here are too far away (sic). If this is a prelude to one moving (preferably the Century Bank which is too prime of a location in our square to be wasted on a bank) to this location so something else can move in the square, great news.

I'm actually excited about the office, because it'll put people in the Square during the day who might go to Tenoch for lunch or over to Carroll's for dinner. But a bank where people are coming and going at all hours in an already congested intersection? Does Medford actually have a planner who studies traffic impact and ways to mitigate it? I wish a restaurant had gone in there — not only to attract more people to the Square, but because traffic/parking is usually only an issue in the evenings. On a related note, does anyone know anything about the three new restaurant proposals that the mayor spoke of in his inaugural address?
