Lexington-based American Camp Association, New England Announces Major Award

The American Camp Association, New England (ACA New England) is pleased to announce that Dan Isdaner of Jupiter, Florida, Co-Owner and Director of ACA Accredited Camp Mataponi in Naples, ME, has received the organization’s 2014 Meritorious Service Award. This award is presented each year to a member of the camp community for admirable service and outstanding contributions to ACA New England. For his leadership of the Camp Champions Committee and its success in providing summer camp experiences for children in need, Isdaner’s award was presented at the Maine Summer Camps annual meeting in July.

For over 20 years, Dan Isdaner has served as both Co-Owner and Director of ACA Accredited Camp Mataponi. Since its establishment in 1910, Camp Mataponi has been a traditional overnight camp for girls in grades 2-9. The camp offers one seven week session each summer that brings over 300 girls from all over the country to experience a mix of land sports, watersports, fine arts, crafts, ropes courses, outdoor adventure, and more.  Recently celebrating its 100th year, Camp Mataponi balances the spirit of today’s modern lifestyles with the traditions of camp life of Sebago Lake.

Isdaner also helped establish Camp Mataponi’s Gold Feather Scholarship Fund to give financial aid to campers in need. The fund, named after the traditional Gold Feather core values at Mataponi, allows those who love Camp Mataponi to give back and help create unforgettable memories for a new Mataponi camper.

In addition to his leadership at Camp Mataponi, Dan Isdaner serves as one of three Camp Champions Committee Co-Chairs, working in partnership with Jason Silberman of Camp Matoka in Smithfield, ME and Jeff Hacker of Camp Cedar in Casco, ME. The Camp Champions Celebration is an annual event wherefamilies, camps and other supporters of the camp experience gather to celebrate the true spirit of camp and to raise Campership Funds that help bring the summer camp experience to the region’s children in need. This year’s Camp Champions Celebration will be held November 21st at Fenway Park. Anna Gould of Camp Sunshine in Casco, ME is the 2014 Honoree.
