Apple Fest at Farmer's Market: The Medford Farmer's Market holds its annual Apple Fest today, which will include an apple baking competition. Stop by the market, located behind City Hall, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Bus Driver Honored For Helping Wandering 2-Year-Old: An MBTA bus driver who spotted a 2-year-old wandering the streets along and notified police received a key to the city of Medford and a commendation from its Police Chief Wednesday. Donna D’Amelio spotted the child near Light Guard Drive as she was driving the 134 route on Riverside Avenue about 6 a.m. on Aug. 5. She stopped the bus, called police and waited with the child until they arrived.

Weather: Sunny skies with highs in the low 60s are expected today, according to the National Weather Service. There's a 30 percent chance of rain tomorrow.

Popular Cereal Recalled Because of Metal Mesh: The Federal Food and Drug Administration has initiated a voluntary recall of Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size because of possible metal mesh fragments from a faulty manufacturing part, according to the FDA.

October Is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has designated October as National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. More than three million dogs are currently in shelters across the United States and are in need of a good home. The month-long observance encourages animal lovers across the nation to raise awareness about the positive aspects of adopting a pet from a local shelter. Medford's own Kitty Connection might have a cat-like name, but it shelters dogs, too. There's also the Animal Rescue League of Boston and Wakefield-based PAWS.
