A Medford man pleaded guilty Friday to charges stemming from allowing emergency medical responders to avoid training by signing off on courses they didn't attend, according to the state's Attorney General. Thomas Codair, 50, is described by prosecutors as the "central figure" in a widespread scheme that allowed emergency medical technicians to sign in on course rosters for state-required "refresher" training courses but not attend, according to a press release from Attorney General Martha Coakley.

Medford Housing Authority Executive Director Robert Covelle has a history of hiring friends and family for staff positions and work contracts, according to a report in Tuesday's Boston Globe. Covelle and the housing authority have been under fire since a Department of Housing and Urban Development audit report last month showed the authority paid out contracts to vendors without competitive bidding and failed to follow federal guidelines in distributing over $7 million in federal funding.

3. Weather: There's a 20 percent chance of showers today with highs in the mid-50s, according to the National Weather Service. Similar weather is expected tomorrow.
