Hearing Officer: Middlesex County Sheriff's Office Discriminated Over Asthma: The Middlesex Sheriff's Office has appealed a decision ordering the office to pay $75,000 in emotional distress damages and back pay to a former corrections officer who said she was discriminated against because of her asthma, according to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. The decision was issued Aug. 20 by a hearing officer; appealing the decision sends it to the entire three-person commission for review.

Weather: Sunny skies with highs in the mid 70s are expected today, according to the National Weather Service. There's a 40 percent chance of rain tomorrow.

On the Agenda: Loan for $14M Science Lab Overhaul: The City Council will consider a request from Mayor Michael McGlynn to take out a $13.8 million loan for a massive overhaul to Medford High School's science facilities during its meeting Tuesday.

Medford Man Arrested with Bolt Cutter in Pants: A Medford man was taking a stiff-legged midnight stroll in Brookline Village, when he was stopped by MBTA and Brookline police last week.  At around 2:15 a.m. last Friday, Transit Police responded to the Brookline Village T stop and arrested this "Midnight Walker," according the tpdnews blog. They say that Robert O'Neil, 43, of Medford was trying to leave the track area, and seemed "stiff-legged," likely due to the large set of bolt cutters tucked down his pants, along with a pair of work gloves.

Trader Joe’s Recalls Peanut Butter Over Salmonella Concerns: Trader Joe’s corporate officials say they are acting “out of an abundance of caution” and ordering the recall of one type of its house brand peanut butter over salmonella concerns. “Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter” should not be eaten, the specialty grocery chain said. “We have no confirmed information that suggests this peanut butter is unsafe to eat,” the company stated. But the food should not be eaten “pending health-related inquiries.”
