Around the Region: Arlington AD Under Investigation, Elizabeth Warren in Malden

Democratic Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren took her campaign to Malden Thursday afternoon, accepting an enthusiastic endorsement from Mayor Gary Christenson and briefly meeting with supporters at the city's senior center.  Christenson praised Warren while clutching a copy of her book "The Two Income Trap," which he described as an influence on his decision to first run for public office.  In turn, Warren described Christenson as a forward-thinking mayor, whose "dreams for Malden" would be best served with her sympathetic partnership in the Senate.  "I have watched what's happened here in Malden, I've listened to the mayor about his dreams for Malden, I've met the people of Malden," she said. "And what I see is some real opportunities for your future." -Chris Caesar

on Beacon Street in Somerville could become Whole Foods, according to a report on Boston.com. The news site reports the texas-based upmarket supermarket chain is in talks to buy or lease six of the 10 Johnnie's Foodmaster sites in Arlington, Charlestown, Brookline, South Weymouth, Melrose and Somerville. -Chris Orchard

Athletic Director Edward “Ted” Dever is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by the Arlington Police Department and Middlesex District Attorney’s office, according to Arlington Superintendent Kathleen Bodie Wednesday. Dever has been placed on paid administrative leave, she wrote in an email. The investigation involves allegations of “certain criminal conduct,” she wrote. “While we cannot comment on the allegations or on the investigation, we are unaware of any allegations of conduct that involves the operation of the Arlington High School athletic programs or of the Arlington Public Schools,” she added. -John Waller

The Stoneham Board of Selectmen are considering bringing a skating rink and a winter carnival to the this winter. Selectman Tom Boussy discussed both activities at Tuesday night's meeting at . "My idea is to invite local restaurants, booster clubs...get a DJ and raise a few bucks for (local organizations)," Boussy said of the Winter Carnival, adding that it would be a first step toward revitalizating the downtown area. Boussy suggested the event be held on a Saturday night, possibly in January sometime. -Mark Ouellette
