Medford Buddhist Center Preps for Dalai Lama: If you're around Washington Street in Medford you'll see an unusual site. A large tent is being erected in open space between homes on Washington and Magoun Avenue, big enough to hold a crowd of 1,800. The occasion? A visit from the Dalai Lama. The Kurukulla Buddhist Center, located on Magoun Avenue, is hosting the exiled leader of Tibetan Buddism on Oct. 16 in a ticketed event. It will be the second time the Dalai Lama has visited Medford.

Two Medford Intersections Among State's Top Crash Sites: The intersection of Route 16 and Winthrop Street, as well as Main Street and Salem Street in Medford Square rank among the top 200 high crash sites in the state, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Route 16 at Winthrop Steet ranks 120 on the DOT's recently released interactive map. Main Street at Salem Street comes in at 153.

Bus Driver Honored For Helping Wandering 2-Year-Old: An MBTA bus driver who spotted a 2-year-old wandering the streets along and notified police received a key to the city of Medford and a commendation from its Police Chief Wednesday. Donna D’Amelio spotted the child near Light Guard Drive as she was driving the 134 route on Riverside Avenue about 6 a.m. on Aug. 5. She stopped the bus, called police and waited with the child until they arrived.

Medford Man Dies in Car Accident on Cape Cod: An 86-year-old Medford man has been identified as the victim in a fatal car accident in Hyannis over the weekend, the Cape Cod Times Reports. Eugene O'Leary was the passenger in a Mercury Milan that collided with a Ford F-150 near an intersection on Route 132 about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. O'Leary and the vehicle's driver both had to be extricated from the car, according to the report. O'Leary was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Report: Junk Hauler Finds $114k in Bonds in Discarded Furniture: A Medford resident thought an old chest in her home was an old piece of junk, but it turned out to have quite a treasure inside. Leo Guarente and his crew from Junk Depot in Saugus had just finished loading up unwanted furniture at the Medford home and were breaking it all down to make room for their next job, acccording to a Channel 7 News report. Inside an old hope chest they found savings bonds from 1972, Guarente told WHDH. "It was just a plain, white envelope. We opened it up, and it looked like thousand dollar bills but they were us savings bonds. They were 22,300 dollars worth of savings bonds," he said.
