LGBT Film Series Continues at Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford with "Loving Annabelle"

LGBT Film
Series Continues at Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford with “Loving
Annabelle” on January 24th
The Unitarian Universalist
Church of Medford’s 2013-2014 series of LGBT films continues with a showing on
Friday, January 24th of the popular 2006 movie by Katharine Brooks, Loving Annabelle.

The film, inspired by the 1931 German classic, Maedchen in Uniform, is a modern telling
of the “forbidden love” story of a Catholic boarding school teacher who has an
affair with a female student, and has become one of the most popular of
contemporary lesbian films.

Simone is a young poetry teacher who finds peace and security
at Saint Theresa. Surrounded by a lush atmosphere with little conflict, she has
settled into a life of comfort and purpose, educating her young female
students. Annabelle is a charismatic and enchanting new student who quickly
draws attention for her rebellious behavior. Fearing Annabelle will influence
the other students, rigid Headmistress instructs Simone to keep an eye on
Annabelle and get her under control.

It soon becomes clear that the real challenge is not Annabelle's behavior but
the budding attraction between the two. As Annabelle pursues her teacher, she
unleashes the passion that has been locked deep inside Simone, who must decide
whether or not to enter into an affair that could cost her everything.

With stunning cinematography, Loving Annabelle explores the complexity
and controversy of love and struggle between two women who have every reason to
deny their feelings. Blind to the world around them, they journey into a love
affair destined to change their lives forever.

The film will be shown in the UUCM Sanctuary at
7:00 pm on Friday, January 24th. Although donations will be
solicited, the showing will be free and open to the public.
