Sisters in Crime New England monthly author panel - History, Mystery, and Murder

Our first Sisters In Crime New England event of 2014 is “History, Mystery, and Murder” author panel with the husband and wife writing team of B.B. Oak and mystery author Lea Wait.

Ben and Beth Oak are the authors of Thoreau at Devils Perch, a mystery featuring Henry David Thoreau, whom they describe as “America’s Sherlock Holmes.” The novel was  selected as a B & N pick of the month for October.  The Oaks’ mystery story, also featuring Thoreau, “Death from a Bad Heart,” published in Best New England Crime Stories 2013: Blood Moon, was named a Distinguished Mystery Story ofa 2012 in Best American Mystery Stories 2012, edited by Lisa Scottoline and Otto Penzler. Connecticut natives, the Oaks met in a literature class at  Boston University and have been enthralled with Thoreau (and each other) ever since. Lea Wait is an Agatha Award nominated Maine author who writes the Shadows Antique Print Mystery series, featuring antique print dealer Maggie Summer. In her fifth mystery, Shadows of a Down East Summer, when the diary of one of  two young women posed for artist Winslow Homer on the coast of Maine in the summer of 1890 comes into Maggie’s possession, mayhem and murder ensue.  A 4th generation antique dealer, who has owned and operated an antique print business since 1977, Lea also writes historical fiction for ages 8-14 set in 19th century Maine.  Her most recent book in the Shadows series is Shadows at a Cape Cod Wedding.  More info. is available on her website: www.leawait.com.
