Medford Going for World Record at Holiday Celebration

See which record the city will try to break Saturday, Nov. 30. There will also be a 5K and lighting.

Medford will try to break the Guinness Book of World Records’ mark for the most people caroling in Santa hats at its annual holiday celebration.

The city used to hold the record until it was broken last winter. The celebration is Saturday, Nov. 30, in Medford Square and at Medford City Hall.

Jingle Bell 5K Walk/Run

Festivities get underway with the Jingle Bell 5K Walk/Run at 2:30 p.m. at the Medford Senior Center, 101 Riverside Ave (more on the race). The race, which is being sponsored primarily by Lonergan Insurance and Real Estate, will support Medford High and Medford Voc/Tech athletic teams and clubs.

The 5K is $20 for adults, $15 for those under 18 if you pre-reigster, at Active.com here or at Lonergan Insurance and Real Estate at 74 High St. in Medford Square. Race day registration is $25 at the Medford Senior Center. It’s free for children under 10.

Holiday Celebration

At 2:45 p.m., things will get going outside Medford City Hall, including, food, music, ice sculptures, face painting, pony rides, a moon bounce and nonprofit tables.

The record-breaking caroling attempt will begin at 5 p.m. in Medford Square, with Santa Claus arriving then to lead the crowd and then light up City Hall.

Pre-Registration Required

Guinness officials require pre-registration, which can be done at Lonergan Insurance and Real Estate. Pre-registration is $1 if you need a Santa hat, or you can bring your own. Only individuals wearing Santa hats will be counted.

Toys for Tots Donations

Donations for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program will be accepted at the celebration. The toys must be new and unwrapped.
