Medford Home Sales Slow Slightly, But Still Outpace Last Year

There were 34 single family home sales in Medford in August.

Medford home sales saw a slight increase in August compared to the same month last year, according to recent real estate data.

And the city continues to outpace last year's overall home sales, are are up 42 percent compared to the first eight months of last year, according to data from real estate publisher The Warren Group.

Medford saw 34 home sales in August, up from 32 in 2011, according to the data. Through August, there have been 226 single family home sales in Medford compared to 159 in the same period last year, according to the data.

State sales were at a quicker pace than Medford in August -- they jumped 20 percent from last August to 5,118. But Medford's year-to-date numbers still outpace the state. Year-to-date sales in the state are up 24 percent at 31,733, compared to 25,581 in 2011, according to the data. Medford's sales are up 42 percent.

Some experts believe a recovery in the housing market is underway.

"One more month of strong home sales confirm speculation that the housing market recovery is underway," Timothy Warren, CEO of the Warren Group, said in a written statement. "Even though we are comparing to a slow August last year, the consistent sales volume of 4,000 to 5,000 in the past few months is a promising indicator."
