Everett Mayor DeMaria to Boston & Somerville. We will not be bullied. Let's work together.

Poll: "Are you in favor of, opposed to, or undecided for the casino in Everett?

My day began yesterday morning at a meeting with a group of long time Medford residents including a city councillor.  I said that in the course of my campaigning, I have not met one person who is opposed to the Everett Casino.  He said that he has not met one person in favor.  I guess we talk to different people.

As a result of this conversation, I began a totally unscientific poll of Medford residents.  The question was very simple, "Are you in favor of, opposed to or undecided for the casino in Everett.  The results are eight in favor, one opposed and seven undecided. There are others who did not vote.

Please feel free to vote on this with or without your reasons.

The largest concern that I am hearing is the increase in traffic.

After that meeting, I went over to the Press Conference called by Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria to address issues raised by Boston Mayor Menino and Somerville Mayor Curtatone.

Mayor DeMaria spoke for 4:25 minutes before opening the conference to questions.

"Everett is the sole host community for this development," Mayor Carlo DeMaria said yesterday at the press conference on the site of the proposed waterfront Five Star Hotel and Casino to be built by Wynn Resorts Development.

Mayor DeMaria went on to say, "I call on my colleagues (Mayor Menino & Mayor Curtatone) to collaborate effectively with us. This project will provide thousands of construction jobs, thousands of permanent jobs and tens of millions of dollars for hazard waste cleanup.  These jobs will be for Everett, Charlestown, Somerville, Medford and Malden residents."
