We are officially in the full swing of the holidays. Not only did Hanukkah begin at sundown last Saturday and Christmas and Kwanzaa are about two weeks away, but Green Monday, also known as the second Monday in December, has just occurred.
According to Green Monday Deals.com, "Green Monday is the last day to catch an online holiday shopping special until after the holidays. Green Monday has nothing to do with the environment – it’s all about money. Ebay first coined the term "Green Monday" to celebrate their highest earning day of the year when they realized sales peaked on the second Monday of December. Since Green Monday falls two weeks before Christmas, it’s one of the last days of the year companies offer free shipping.
And as USA Today attests, "The second Monday in December [is] called Green Monday for all the money that changes hands."
Who knew? I must admit that I didn't before I watched The Today Show on Monday morning, and apparently Green Monday has been around since 2007. Where have I been? I know all about Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, but this concept was entirely new to me. It brings back the old adage that you learn something new every day. Cheers to Green Monday!
And now back to the task at hand - the Weston, MA real estate market ... In the last two weeks in Weston, six single family homes came on the market and two sold.* The number of new listings is a bit surprising given that we are in the midst of the holidays. There were only two new listings in the same two weeks last year. Our inventory (52) remains low especially when compared to this time last year (63). Based on the data, 2012 will end stronger than 2011, and we hope these positive results continue in 2013. I also hope that your holidays are peaceful, happy, merry, loving and joyous!
