Three Mystic Valley Girls Named All Stars

The Mystic Valley girls’ basketball team had 3 of its student athletes honored as Commonwealth Athletic Conference All Stars this past week. The All Stars were Sophomores Jessica Phinney and Paulina Petras and Freshman Meghan Foley. Foley was also honored as the conference’s Most Valuable Player and Coach Jason Cantwell was awarded as Coach of the Year in the conference. Cantwell added the following about the Lady Eagles 3 selections:

Jessica Phinney: “Jessica is a coaches’ dream. She is fundamentally sound in all areas and her feet never stop moving on defense. Jessica averaged 11 points a game this past season, with a single-game team high of 26 against Minuteman on February 4th. She has a non-stop motor and it shows when you check the box score after the game. Whether it is rebounds, assists, steals or deflections she will always be at or near the top after every game. Jessica broke the 600 career point mark this past season and is only a sophomore. This was her second consecutive all star selection and I see no reason why that will not happen the next 2 seasons as well.”

Paulina Petras: “Paulina has worked extremely hard to get to the point where she was a consensus pick (meaning every coach in the league nominated a player) to this years’ all star team. As a sophomore, Paulina nearly averaged a double-double, averaging over 8 points a game and 10 rebounds. “Paulina was in the weight room all last spring and all summer working to get quicker and stronger and it paid off this season” said Coach Jason Cantwell. “We will look to Paulina for leadership going forward and she is a perfect example for others in the program to see that hard work does pay off”.

Meghan Foley: “Meghan accomplished more than I ever could have imagined this past season. She recorded the first triple double in Mystic Valley history (boys or girls) in a 21 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist effort against Chelsea High in January She also led the team in scoring (14 points per game), steals, assists and minutes played. Meghan’s work ethic is second to none. She finished first in about 99% of the drills and sprints we did this season and has an unmatched passion for winning.”
