Mystic River Watershed Association Honors Mayor McGlynn at Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Mystic River Watershed Association was held on Thursday, October 24, at Winchester Town Hall.  As part of the event, the Association announced the recipient of the Mystic Municipal Leadership Award to recognize the efforts by municipal staff who have made a noteworthy impact on the protection and restoration of the Mystic River and its tributaries.

The honoree for 2013 was Michael McGlynn, Mayor of the City of Medford, for his consistent support of making improvements to the river and making the river a central part of Medford center.  The Mayor has also been supportive of the City’s involvement with water chestnut removal and was instrumental in securing additional funding and developing partnerships to combat this invasive plant.  It was also noted that the Mayor has been an advocate for improvements at the Condon Shell and Clippership Drive Parks.

"Mayor McGlynn should be commended for bringing to the forefront the importance of embracing the Mystic River which flows through our community", said EKOngKar Singh Khalsa, Executive Director of the Mystic River Watershed Association.
