Angelo Joseph Fiantaca, Former Medford Resident, WWII Veteran, Dies at 90

Fiantaca died Saturday, Nov. 16.

Angelo Joseph Fiantaca, 90, of Westwood, formerly of Medford and East Boston, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, of renal failure surrounded by his loving children at Massachusetts General Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Leone) Fiantaca. Born in Boston, Angelo was one of nine children of the late Philip and Mary Grace (Stella) Fiantaca.

Angelo was raised and educated in East Boston where he was a graduate of East Boston High School class of 1941. He proudly and honorably served with the U.S. Army 307th Medical Section in Guam during WWII. He also volunteered and served as Scoutmaster and Chairman of St. Clements Boy Scouts Troop 71 and was a Distinguished Secretary and Past President of the East Boston Kiwanis Club and K Trust Scholarship committee. He was the co-owner of the former Bridge Cleaners Dry Cleaning in East Boston.

Angelo was the devoted father of Edward Fiantaca and his wife Jackie of Union, Wash., Marygrace Stracqualursi and her husband Dr. Roy of Norwood, Dolores Gilbert and her husband John F. of Methuen and Joanne Costello and her husband Edward "Ted" of Norwood. He was the loving grandfather of Michael, Brian and Mark Fiantaca, Nancy and Kathleen Costello, Christopher Gilbert, Maria Stacqualursi. Also survived by 10 loving great grandchildren. Brother of the late Grace Polito, Anna Iritano, Sister MaryGrace (MFIC), Rose D'Alto, Charles, Joseph, Salvatore and Philip Fiantaca.

Funeral service for Angelo will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
