Charles P. Pagliarulo Sr., Professional Baseball Player, Business Owner, Dies at 76

Pagliarulo is a member of the Mustang Hall of Fame.

Charles P. Pagliarulo Sr., 76, of Andover and a former longtime Medford resident passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Lawrence General Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret M. (Dempsey) and together they shared 53 years of marriage prior to her passing 2011. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Michael and Jennie (Leto) Pagliarulo.

Charlie, as he was known to his family and friends, was raised and educated in Medford. He was a 1955 graduate of Medford High School where he was a standout student athlete and excelled on the baseball diamond. He is also a member of the Mustang Hall of Fame. Following high school, Charlie attended the University of Illinois for a few years before signing a professional contract to play ball with the Chicago Cubs organization.

After his baseball career ended, he returned home and began working alongside his father manufacturing leather goods in the family business, Lorraine Handbags of Boston, eventually becoming the owner and operator of the business. Charlie was mostly devoted to his family and was extremely proud of his children's and grandchildren's many accomplishments. In his leisure time, Charlie enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family, keeping up on all the sporting news, and traveling, especially to Florida.

Charlie is survived by his devoted children, Michael Pagliarulo and his wife Karen of Winchester, Charles Pagliarulo Jr. and his wife Eileen of Medford, Lisa Freni and her husband Mark of Andover, and Charneen Pagliarulo of Wakefield. He was the loving grandfather of Michael, Erica, Charles III and Monica Lee Pagliarulo, Jack, Alexa Jane and Drew Freni. Brother of the late Elaine Coliano and Marie Miller. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held form the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Friday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment services will be private.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Charlie's memory to the Rig Foundation, c/o Liberty Bay Credit Union, 350 Granite St., suite 1102, Braintree, MA 02184-4999.
