Claire Carroll, Former Medford Resident, Dies at 90

Carroll died Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The following is from Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home.

Mrs. Claire Marie (Blinn) Carroll, a resident of North Andover and formerly of Medford, died at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at 90 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Carroll, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Claire was born in Boston on June 3, 1923, the beloved daughter of the late Nelson J. and Clara G. (Flannigan) Blinn. Mrs. Carroll was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1941. After high school, she attended Hickox Secretarial School and became a secretary for a company in Boston's Post Office Square. She also worked at Middlesex Bank in Medford until the birth of her son John, after which she stayed home to be a full-time mother. She was a former communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford. An avid sports fan, Claire supported all of the Boston sports teams. Her love of the Red Sox began when her father took her to her first game at the age of 3. She was also an avid reader, gardener and tennis player. In recent years, Claire enjoyed spending the winter months in Naples, Fla., with her daughter Marianne. Most of all she loved being a mother to her children and devoted her life to her family.

She will be very sorely missed by her loving daughter: Marianne C. and her husband Richard Galeazzi of North Andover, with whom she resided. She was also the loving mother of the late John F. Carroll Jr. She was a devoted sister to her late brothers Nelson C., Edward J., Edmund G. and Paul F. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and her much loved grand dog Logan.
