Obituary: Doris Mae Goddard, Lifelong Medford Resident

Goddard died Wednesday, May 7.

The following is from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home.

Doris Mae Goddard, a lifetime resident of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

Doris was born in Medford in 1920, the daughter of William C. and Margarite (Doyle) Murray. She was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1938. After high school, Doris furthered her education and became an X-ray technician. She worked for many years for a few different doctors including Dr. Gohn in Medford, before retiring to focus on raising her family.

In 1946, Doris had married her sweetheart, Alfred J. Goddard, and the two settled down together in Medford. They shared 40 years of marriage together until Alfred's passing in 1986. Doris was a quiet person who enjoyed caring for her family. She also liked nature, and maintained birdfeeders so she could watch her birds. 

She is the loving wife of the late Alfred J. Goddard, devoted mother of Alfred W. Goddard of Medford, Cynthia L. Ellis of Medford and Pamela J. Reed of Malden. Doris was the cherished sister of the late William Murray.  She is also the proud grandmother of six and great grandmother of nine.

A time of visitation for Doris will be held on Friday, May 9, from 10-11 a.m.  A graveside service will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
